Meeting his parents

I met this guy about 2 months ago, we dated for a month and now we are "boyfriend/girlfriend." I like him a lot, i usually meet someone and fall for them right away, but i have been really careful with this guy. Now every time Isee him I like him that much more and I just wnat to be around him all the time, I am falling for this guy hard.
His parents are coming into town this weekend and he wants me to meet them, but i am really nervous!! I don't know if it is too soon or what since we have only been dating for 2 months. Meeting the parents is a big deal.
My parents will be here too, so he wants to meet them.
DO you guys think it is too soon to meet them?

I met my boyfriend's parents on our 1st date - we were heading out in their boat - that seems so soon, but it didn't weird me out or anything, he met mine before we even started dating so I guess it really depends on the whole situation. So IMHO I don't think it's too soon.

I knew my wife's folks two years before I even met her! So it's never "too early" to meet the folks.

Just be careful - IF you get to the point of being engaged, and it's time for the parents to meet the parents...don't do what we did....we had a little boo-boo in trying to rush to the meeting - so, after our little traffic accident, the parental meeting happened in the local emergency room! We were bruised, but otherwise OK...

If you guys had "The Talk" after only a month and are "exclusive" already, its certainly not too early to meet the parents lol.

Just out of curiosity, who brought up the whole, "what are we speech?" first?

IT was four months when I met my b/fs 'rents and it could have been four weeks. If the opportunity arises then why not. Wouldn't it be awkward if you avoided it, when they come to town. They might think he was hiding you or hiding them from you. If its early in a relationship its no big deal.

He brought it up first and I told him i wasn't ready for the whole title thing. . . than i got to thinking about it and decided that we were already basically in a relationship anyways, and totally into eachother. So i brought it up again and told him i was ready :)

I met my boyfriend's parents just last Christmas after we had been dating for a year and a half. His dad was really cool, but his mom seemed to have some preconceived notions about me. Ya know? I mean she didn't talk to me, she talked down to me. They came here from South Africa so maybe that is a cultural thing.

i say go for it. Its never to early. If you want to meet his parents and if he wants to meet yours i say is all gravey!!!:)

If he wants you to meet his mom it means loves you a lot.

Him wanting you to meet his parents is definitely a good sign! I dont think its too soon. Actually it would be nice if all relationships started off by meeting the parents. Its a lot easier for girls if they live at home since the guy normally picks up. I think the longer it drags out then the more anticipation there is.

Okay so its sunday and you posted on friday. How did it go?

AlphaO 04-28-2002 11:36 PM

So, I met his dad and stepmom on friday night. They were really nice and made me feel really welcome.
My boyfriend told me I had nothing to worry about cause he had told his dad how much he likes me and said that his dad could tell that he was really happy with me.
So i was kinda quiet at dinner, but i get really shy easily. I hope I made a decent impression on them :). Overall it went well, he didn't get to meet my parents because we were both really busy the whole weekend, but they saw pictures :) I wish they could have met him!

So, I met his dad and stepmom... and he told me tonight that i have to be sure to be in town the first weekend of June, cause his mom is coming to town... he really wants me to meet her. This is even more pressure than his dad!!! I wonder if what you say is true, optimist prime :)

yay for you!

I'm glad it went well for you! I know it's often a nerve-wracking experience to meet the parents for the first time.

But at least you had advance notice! My boyfriend had asked me if I wanted to do something after he finished work. I said sure. I thought we were just going to hang out or something. He said, "Hey, let's go get something to eat." I got into the car and asked "where are we going?" "Oh, we're going to my parent's house for dinner."

I flipped out right there in the car. I was like take me home!!! I need to change clothes! I'm wearing dirty jeans and sneakers! My hair is messed up! Take me home! :)

He assured me that I looked fine. I wasn't convinced, but I had no choice because we were halfway there and he wouldn't turn the car around.

But wait! It's gets worse! It turns out that *he didn't tell his mom that he was bringing me over*!! She didn't even have enough food prepared!!! My boyfriend had to go down the street to get me something to eat. So, while the rest of the family ate dinner, I sat there in my jeans and sneakers eating fish and chips out of a bag.

Guys, don't ever do that to your girlfriends.

Oh well, his family likes me a lot so I guess it's all good.

......Kelly :)

I met my girlfriends parents by going home with her three hours away and staying with the family for 2 nights. I met her mother the day before by helping move Tacia to a new apartment, and her father on the following day. I got on both of their goodsides and even the familly Rottweiler, Chewbacca, liked me. She met my parents as well.

Then we visited my sister in D.C. last weekend, and I visited hers in Maryland. It's grown to be pretty serious in a very short span of time, but that's great with me....despite the ironical beginning (which is fine too considering my stance on Relationships and their absurd tendencies) I really REALLY like this girl. Hope everything stays this way....I'm missing her now because she'll be out in California then Hawaii all the next month with family.

Well my hubby's parents were really excited to meet me. The reason is because he told them that he was never going to bring a girl home to meet them unless he planned on marrying her...I did not know this at the time. I was told this after we got engaged.

The funny thing was that at the time I met his parents I was still dating my ex-boyfriend, me and my hubby were just friends, and he was dating one of my sorority sisters.
