Fraternity Letters
I was wondering since I just came upon this non-greek letter thing recently. How did the Farmhouse, Acacia, and Triangle fraternities get that name and why don't they use regular greek letters? Are they good fraternities, do any of you guys have them on campus?

Can't speak for exactly how they came about getting those names. I think I've read somewhere that FH was founded in a farmhouse and it started out as more of a club that met "at the farmhouse" or something along those lines. Acacia is a greek word and I forget what it means right now but it's something like friendship. I have no idea about Triangle, but I think it has something to do with the importance in Architecture, Engineering and Sciences which are the majors they tend to exclusively rush. I could be wrong about all three of these Organizations so if any brother of these houses wants to offer the correct explanations I'd love to hear them. I also bet that you could also go to their national Websites for explanations.
All three houses are on the University of Nebraska campus so I can speak about them. Like any GLO chapters can vary from place to place so I'm by no means making generalizations about the national organizations.
Hope this answers your questions. |
We have an ACACIA chapter on our campus. From what I understand it's one of their top chapters around the country. They've won grades almost every semester (except last one where we won! and as Beta said above, we probably will keep winning also :D ). From my understanding of them Acacia is the Greek word for peace and their roots are in masonry. I believe they were a direct offshoot of masonry and in the beginning were a 'masons only' type of fraternity. Their entire ritual and symbollism has something to do with the Pythagorean Theorum.
They're a real group of guys and most of them I think would say that their top two houses during rush were Sigma Nu and Acacia :D LHT Kevin MT #5 University of Central Oklahoma |
