Depending on your college "formal" recruitment (the new term for "rush") is held at the beginning of the fall semester or after Christmas break. Girls who want to rush sign up ahead of time to go through the formal process. There is usually a form to fill out and a small fee. All the girls who are rushing start by visiting every house for a short "rush party" where you chat with members and get to see at least part of the house. After the first round, some of the sororities will invite you back and you get to decide which invitations to accept. This repeats for a few more rounds, with you returning to fewer and fewer houses each day. Finally, you'll have your houses narrowed down to your favorite 2 or 3. This round is called "preference night" and it is the dressiest and most serious. You will be told what to wear (generally, not an exact outfit you must buy) each night, since it is different from school to school. Typically rush week starts out casual and gets dressier with each round.
