Taxes

How many people actually completed their taxes with no help from anyone else? I did it on my own this year and not the ez1040 one . It was not as hard as I thought it would be and I wish I done them myself before and not waste money getting it done by someone else

Oh, not me-Mr. XO_Princess did my taxes this year. The one year I tried to do it myself, I did something wrong, and got a whopping refund of....$4. And I know I didn't make that much money that year!

Last year, being the first year I filed my taxes, I did it on my own, using the 1040EZ. This year, I did my own taxes using the 1040. It is not difficult at all.

I can see where it may be difficult though. My dad has his own business and him and my mom file a joint return. They always have their accountant do their taxes for them because it is so confusing.

It's easy as long as you don't start adding in Capital Gains on the sale of stock options and such....We pretty much just pay someone now so that if something is wrong the IRS goes to them instead:D

My parents collect all my tax info and send it to our accountant on the Island - but living in Canada it should be dead easy: figue out what you earn send it all to the Canadian Gov't LOL.

I'd always heard that Canadian taxes are outrageously high. That is true, then?

Last year was the first I ever did them on my own. I decided that I didn't want to pay the accountant more than I was paying in taxes, LOL. I just followed along from what my parents' accountant did the year before and also looked on the internet. I did the same this year, and all I have to say is GOD BLESS GEORGE W AND ALL HE STANDS FOR, because I got a very nice chunk of $$$ back due to the new tax laws.

The jags at my borough tax office though...that's another story. It's really not nice to act like a bitch when someone (a.k.a. me) asks a question because their day and night does not revolve around taxes.

I've been doing my taxes on my own ever since I graduated college. Never had a problem with it. I usually use the Telefile method because it's very simple, and I get my return more quickly than I would if I mailed it off. :)

my dad is in the highest income bracket - which starts around 90,000-100,000 CAD - 51% of what he earns goes to the government - I know we get free healtcare but that is totally outrageous.

Each month I pay over $400 in taxes to prov and the fed gov't and I'm in the lowest bracket.

My parents have been giving my tax info to their CPA, but I think this is the last year they will do that for me :(

Eirene_DGP 04-11-2002 05:48 PM

Funny topic. This is the first year that I have done my taxes myself. I just realized I forgot to do state. LOL!! I guess I will do it tomorrow. The 1040EZ was quite simple.
I wonder when I will get my refund back being that I waited till the very end pretty much.

damasa 04-11-2002 06:04 PM

In theory I can do my taxes, I know how, BUT my uncle is a cpa and he does them for free, can't beat that deal!

bucutie02 04-11-2002 09:49 PM

I did them all by myself this year and it said i would get a refund of about 355 which i was extremely happy about, BUT i didnt completely trust myself so i went to have them done when my parents went and to my surprise, i only messed up a little bit and im really getting 400 back. WOO HOO!!!!! :D

Looks like bucutie is going shopping! ;) After all, that IS my specialty:cool:

There are 3 things I refuse to do:
1) change my oil on my car myself (or anything else car related)
2) do my own taxes
3) full with anything electrical

I LOVE my accountant and have no problem paying him. It really doesn't cost that much and saves me a huge headache cause of all the stocks, mutual funds, target funds, IRA, school loan, house mortgage etc.... stuff I have.

Periwinkle 04-13-2002 11:51 AM

I did my taxes using Taxcut which was a snap. I would've used the EZ forms, but I've got some mutual funds, etc. that put out of that group.
