How lucky we are...

I am sitting here designing a special recruitment site for the Texas Tech Alpha Phis. All evening, I have been cropping pictures, listening to music, and thinking about Alpha Phi.

As I look at the adorable smiling faces of the Tech collegians, I can't help but think of all my old Alpha Phi sisters--forever young and beautiful in mind. Amazing women with amazing dreams and hopes for the future. Some of them are now moms; some are lawyers, doctors or teachers. Some I will see again and some I never will. Most are still with us, but some have joined the Silent Chapter all too soon...

Do the women in these photos I crop have any idea how lucky they are? How lucky to have chosen and have been chosen by Alpha Phi? Do they know how quickly time flies? How soon they will scatter to the four winds like feathers on the breeze...? How soon these carefree days will be over...?

I know I didn't relish every precious minute as I now know I should have. Is it possible to truly recognize all that is beautiful, wonderful and special about your chapter until you leave it? Until all the petty, day-to-day squabbles are forgotten? Until you (sigh) grow older? Can you truly ever live in the moment?

As Meg Ryan's character in You've Got Mail says, these questions don't necessarily require a response; I'm just sending them out into the vast void of cyberspace.

This post is so beautiful! It helped to make me realized that we should enjoy the time we have together, rather than always spending our time together just working on recruitment, philanthropy, etc. We need to enjoy the "social" aspect of our sorority. Being such a small chapter, we all have to work twice as hard as the larger chapters becuase we all have a lot to do in order to keep our chapter going.

When we look back on our years, we will remember the things we did to help our chapter grow; however, the fun times that we shared together will stand out the most. When we all part and go our seperate ways and find ourselves remembering about our collegiate years as an A-Phi, we will think what you were thinking. I know that I definitely will.

We have three girls graduating in a month, one of which is my big sis. My big sis will most likely be moving out of the city, so I will no longer have my big sis here in San Antonio. I am sad that she is leaving, but I know that she is going to begin her happy and successful life. I know that she will always be a phone call or e-mail away, but it will not be the same. She has been my "study buddy." Her and I study almost every evening together, whether it is at IHOP, her apartment or the library. I am really going to miss her. :( I know that next year's graduation will be even harder because we have about 8 girls graduating. Appreciating each other's company, making the best out of the time we have left together, is something we all need to do.

I am sorry. My thoughts were not as flowing as yours were, but rather choppy. You just got me to realize how special these years are and should be.

Jen, if it is okay with you, may I e-mail your post to all of my chapter sisters? I am sure that they would all appreciate it.

SATX*APhi: Could you be any sweeter? I don't think so! You're more than welcome to use any of the post if you think it would be of use. Thank you for your sweet, positive posts. They always make me smile.

Jen
