In order to help the Gamma Chi Philanthropy committee develop a plan of action, we need some info from you all.

Please tell us:

1) What your national philanthropy is (if your org has one).

2) How many hours you currently spend a semester on philanthropy activites *with your chapter*.

"Alpha Omicron Pi’s International Philanthropy supports Arthritis, Juvenile Arthritis and related diseases. Since 1967 when we adopted the Arthritis Foundation and Canadian Arthritis Society as our international philanthropy, over one million dollars has been raised by AOIIs to help researchers find a cure for this crippling disease that, so often, targets women as its victims. Chapters also donate time to countless local community projects to benefit children, the elderly, the less fortunate, and others."


I am an alumna who doesn't have an alumnae chapter near me (yet!) but I have volunteered at my children's schools this year and support our local Scout troop.

Alpha Gamma Delta's national philanthropy is the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

1) What your national philanthropy is (if your org has one). I do not belong to a National Org. However, I am a volunteer for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Also, my women's club supports a halfway house for pregnant women who are on parole, the DARE program, and the children's reading program.


2) How many hours you currently spend a semester on philanthropy activites *with your chapter*.
I spend 22-35 hours per semester working with/for the Leukemia Society. I spend 1-2 hours a month working with the women's club issues.

Philanthropy
 

Alpha Sigma Tau's National Philanthropy is Pine Mountain Settlement School in Harlan County, Kentucky. We mainly raise money for them to build cabins, buy vans, air conditioners, big stuff like that. Last year we also supported them in petitioning (and winning) against strip mining in Kentucky.

I'm an alumnae, so I don't spend chapter hours working with the philanthropy. Our chapters, along with Pine Mountain, choose a local philanthropy to support. My chapter supported an abused women's and children's shelter in our college town.

Actually, Alpha Gamma Delta's Official Philanthropy is the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. According to IHQ's website:

The MISSION of the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, Inc. is two-fold:

To generate financial resources to fund the educational, philanthropic and leadership purposes of Alpha Gamma Delta
Fraternity

To support those purposes, for both members and non-members, through financial grants for scholarships; leadership training; diabetes research, education and equipment; emergency financial assistance; wellness issues; and programs that enhance high personal standards of ethics and values.


I don't really know how many hours a semester I spent as a collegian doing Philanthropy. Oftentimes we'd hold fundraisers here and there in order to send money to Foundation, but most of the time it was spent doing community philanthropy (visiting Shriners' Hospital at Halloween, volunteering at the Academy of Arts, etc.).

Our alumnae chapter has always been strong in this department. Annually, the alumnae chapter hosts "The Grape Escape" usually at a local restaurant, with a Silent Auction with goods donated by alumnae, their family members, and members of the business community. This fundraiser has always proven to be successful in generating funds to send to Foundation.

American Red Cross is Theta Chi's Philanthropy.

Tri Delta's national philanthropy is Children's Cancer Charities. I personally spend 10-20 hours a semsester vollunteering.

well sigma kappa has four philanthropies.

inherit the earth, gerontology, alzheimer's disease, and the maine sea coast mission. hope this helps!

AEPhi's national philanthropies are Chaim Sheba Medical Center in Israel and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

I'm an alum, but when I was in school I probably spent around 30 hours per semester doing philanthropy work - I was fundraising chair for a time.

Alpha Gam's Phil is the Alpha Gamma Delta foundation which generates money for scholarships, aid to help sisters in need besides educational and also focuses on Juvenile Diabetes.

I'm an alum, but I probably spent 10-15 hours a semester on stuff when I was active. Currently I do whatever charties are around and need to be helped with, however I focus on Diabetes research and Breast Cancer Awareness and would like to look at things for Battered Children, those in group/foster homes.

As many people have already mentioned, AGD's Philanthropy is the AGD Foundation for Juvenile Diabetes Research.
2) How many hours you currently spend a semester on philanthropy activites *with your chapter*.
Usually we spend about 10-15 hours, sometimes much more...it depends on our events.

Delta Gamma Pi's NP is the WorldWild Life Federation Fund, and the Breast Cancer Fund

Alpha Gam's is the AGD foundation like previously posted but I woundered if you could do something different. Seems most are about childrens concerns, which are worthy causes, but I feel the elderly deserve some attention too. Maybe something to do with elderly health and well being since alot of elderly are "forgotten" esp. when put in nursing homes. Maybe improving the wellness of these people would be something to consider???

D Phi E has three philanthropies: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, ANAD The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, and The Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation. I don't remember how much time we spent on each. Every semester we would have a fundraiser for CF and an information program about eating disorders.
