Parents' Weekend
I was wondering what you all do for parents weekend at your school. Is it the school's parents' weekend or do you have your own for you GLO also? What activities does your GLO plan? This is ours and last night we had a cocktail party which went REALLY well after sme major trauma. This morning we're having a formal brunch and awards ceremony. Just wondering what other people's is like...maybe get some ideas for the future.

Some have separate Dads and moms days, some just parents days!
SPE has parents weekend and they bring items to auction off and the money goes to the chapter! Some on dads weekend plan golf and dinner! I guess you have to tailor to your Org. and the school and chapter size! Remember, many Parents did not go to college so do not know what Greek Orgs. are and like anyone else, they wonder what their little kids got into! It is a good time to let them know that we are not all beer guzzleing nutsoids. We do many things for charity and our campuses. You do that, and they will be proud of their little boys or girls for doing something to make them proud!:D They will also make more $$$$ available to you as they find you are not just blowing it!;) |
We have a mother/daughter tea. It's a really nice brunch. We have a slide show and a pinning ceremony for our mothers.

At LSU, theDGs do all kinds of things. During Homecoming Week, both parents were invited to the house. They had light food, punch etc. We could watch the parade from the house. They had Christmas decorating where the Moms and the alum assoc. helped out, Founders Day/awards luncheon and parents could attend, but I chose to skip this one. They had Dad's Day which was a cookout and timed to coincide with a baseball game. The Jazz Luncheon was a couple weeks back and that was teriffic. The 20th is their ball, the new members parents attend as the father presents his daughter. (All of the sororities on campus have this) Later a Dad's work day is planned to help with the upkeep of the house. Very, very open to parents compared to sororities at U of Houston in the early 70's. Nothing involved the parents. At UTx we (AXO) had more parent activities. La. Tech AXO has a picnic- perhaps more that I am unaware of.

When I was active, they had both parents come down and we had a lunch. During the lunch, the video from Rush was shown, just so our parents could see what we were all about- and they loved it!! :) Later, we all hopped on a bus to go to the game and tailgated.

Our parents weekend is usually at the end of the spring semester. We have a dinner and chapter awards given out. Earlier in the day there is a father/ son softball game. Afterwards everyone socializes at the house.

We actually have both a Mom's and a Dad's weekend. Dad's is in the fall, and there is always a home game on that weekend, so everyone can take their dads. Mom's weekend is this weekend (YIPPEE!!), and there's a craft fair and comedian (oh, that's at both as well!) This year for Mom's weekend we have Bill Cosby, and I can't remember who we had for dad's weekend.
All the parents can stay in the house, and on Sun there is a huge brunch as well. We also have a silent auction during mom's weekend to help raise money. They have a parent's meeting both times to let the moms and dads know what we have been up to. It also serves as a meeting for the Parents committee and if they want to make any donations, they are able to. |
We have a Mother/Daughter Tea and also a Parent/Alum BBQ during Homecoming.

*BUMP*
Family's Weekend is the same weekend as Humorology, and I was just looking for other ideas. I already got a basic itinerary planned (thanks to GC!), but if anyone else has any other ideas to keep our families busy, I'd appreciate them. One thing I like that our chapter is doing is designating "family" as your real family and/or your Madison "family": (roommates, best friends, etc.). The family of one of our sisters moved to London recently, and we wanted to include her too... |
We just had our KD Parent's Weekend! We had "Shopping with Mom" downtown on Saturday morning the "Tee Off with Dad" in the afternoon. Then Saturday night we had a really nice cocktail dinner and award ceremony.
|
This was our Dad's weekend. We toured the football stadium on Friday. On Saturday, there was a carnival. Today/yesterday was brunch.
|
We have a Skeet shoot at the local gun club then we have dinner at a steak house down town and hand out awards and do a powerpoint with float, campus involvement, formals etc to show the parents.
