Most popular on your campus

Here's a question for all you Greeks out there. Which sororities/fraternities are most popular on your campus? By popular I DON'T mean the one everyone thinks is the coolest or whatever, I mean as far as membership goes, which has the most members etc? If you come from a large campus, please name the top 5 membership in your opinion.

Im curious because I've seen a lot of difference from campus to campus. IE, at one XYZ will be the most popular, but that same XYZ won't be at another.

Also, after you post your five, can you say WHY you think those five are the most populated?

I forgot to mention mine:

Chi Omega
Delta Delta Delta
Alpha Kappa Alpha
Alpha Phi
Gamma Phi Beta

I think the reason Chi O and TriDelt are so popular with incoming rushees is that they're the most well known nationally.

AEPhi is probably one of the lesser joined.

Sorority:
That is a hard one. I belive Phi Sigma Sigma is the biggest with AEPhi and SDT very very close behind them.

Fraternity:
1. Sigma Phi Epsilon
2. Tau Kappa Epsilon
3. Sigma Tau Gamma
4. Phi Kappa Tau
5. Phi Sigma Kappa

There are only 4 fraternities and 4 sororities on my campus:

Fraternities:
1. Lambda Chi Alpha--most active members
2. Tau Kappa Epsilon--great guys!
3. Phi Sigma Kappa--really growing in numbers
4. Alpha Chi Rho--I think is local, but not sure--mostly made up of athletes

Sororities:
1. Alpha Sigma Tau--Most active members
2. Sigma Sigma Sigma--probably ties with AST in active members
3. Delta Zeta--my sorority--I'd say the most diverse--lots of alum involvement
4. Phi Sigma Sigma--just got their charter several years ago, were local, gaining membership rapidly

This is based on when I was in school--which was over 2 years ago, so I would say that these figures could very well be wrong.

Here's how it breaks down at my school, which has one of the top three largest Greek systems in the country (according to the statistics compiled by GreekUSA and others). There are several sororities that could vie for the biggest--numbers change from year to year--but I think the top 5 biggest would be something like:

Delta Delta Delta
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Alpha Gamma Delta
Sigma Delta Tau

These sororities probably have 150-160 members each, but there are others that probably have close to 150.

As far as the biggest fraternities go:

Alpha Tau Omega (the biggest--they're the football player house)
Zeta Beta Tau (one of the 4 Jewish fraternities on our campus)
Sigma Chi (popular nationally)
Phi Delta Theta or Lambda Chi Alpha (also popular nationally). But Acacia, Beta Theta Pi, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon might be ranked up there too. I graduated 4 years ago, so I can't be 100% sure.

Pi Kappa Alpha was the second biggest after ATO's until they got kicked off campus for a couple of years. They were seen as a "preppy" house--the sororities loved them because they were good looking and most of them came from rich families.

Interesting note a

Hipchic- If we're going to take a narrow view then, I've heard in Wisconsin that many of the houses are very large and that you're view of which house is popular depends on whether you're an East-Coaster or someone from the Mid-West. And Apparently your religion too. So I suppose that sororities such as Alpha Epsilon Phi, Sigma Delta Tau, and Alpha Phi would be popular with those among the "jewish community" seeing as they are originally Jewish founded sororities. While, Alpha Chi Omega, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Gamma Phi Beta would probably tend to draw people from other communities. I guess then that their popularity can be judged more by what you prefer. Kind of like a Gucci bag to a Kate Spade.

Alpha Phi is not a Jewish founded sorority. We were founded by 10 of the first 20 women to enroll at Syracuse University. Our principles and mottos refer to God but not Christianity specifically as to be inclusive but has nothing to do with any particular religion.
