Big/Little brother programs

As ya'll may have noticed at this point I'm just trying to pick people's brains and maybe figure out a few good traditions to have at the Mu Tau. Some of our local chapters have big/little programs. I'm vaguely familiar with the concept but am unaware of all the minor specifics involving them. I've even looked at other chapter's websites and seen "Family trees". If anyone has an interesting big/little program, please share it with me.

the way my chatper does it is not with big/little brothers, but with fathers and son's.

You can only have one son per year(unless there are more pledges than fathers). And you keep track as much as you can of your family line. I can trace my line back 5 people(to people I've only met at homecomming) and currently have 2 sons, a grandson, and a nephew, active in the chapter. It's a....good bonding techniqe to have family lines do things together, and start traditions. each family has its own traditions, mine has a few, one of my favorite being going to this Chineese buffet resturant once a term with our entire family line. One family has this gift giving tradition that involves giving someone a big rubber bug, a "boys" toy, a "girls" toy, and a serious gift of some sort. A lot of the traditions are silly but fun.

The way we run our Little/Big bro program is that in the early weeks of the semester usually at the second or third candidate meeting we ask each candidate to write down three brothers that they would like to have as a big bro. The marshal then decides who from those three would be the best mentor/bigbro for that particular candidate. About a month into the program we have a big bro revealing night where the candidates learn who there big brothers are .

Big Brothers are responsible for making sure that their little brothers are on task and often give advice. They are also supposed to buy their little bro's first set of letters.

The way we began our families was that we picked four influential brothers in our chapter's history and went from their little brother(s) down the line. this system has worked very well for us since we first began using it in the late 80's.
