Philadelphia Junior Circle/Alumnae Club
I was very disappointed to realize after graduation that there is no junior circle or alumnae club in the Philadelphia area, and I was wondering if there is anyone else from around here that feels the same way. If so, would anyone be interested in starting one? I posted a message on alphagam.net about it a couple of months ago but only got one response. I'd like to see how many other people would be interested in either joining or helping me get started before I try to contact IHQ. Thanks! :)

I'm not from that area, but I think Junior Circles are soooo great for keeping younger alumnae connected. You may be surprised to find out that there are other Philadelphia alumnae that have thought about this, too! They may not know of the resources out there like alphagam.net or GC... if you contact the International Junior Circle Chairman (Rebecca Battle Bryant - you can look her up via the Member Services portion of the Fraternity website), she may be able to tell you if others are interested, too.
If nothing else, maybe you can work with her to get a printout from IHQ of the JC-aged alumnae in that area and see if you can get something going. Good luck! :) |
I would definitely email both Rebecca and IHQ for help. It will be the quickest way to find other alumnae in the area. Although, a response may take awhile.
I'm in the process of reorganizing the JC in Birmingham, AL right now and the print out I got from IHQ a few months ago was quite helpful. A lot of women had email addresses/phone numbers listed so I was able to get about 100 women who were interested rather quickly. I think you can also find out who's living in the area from the IHQ website? You can also contact undergrad chapters in the area/state (not sure where the chapters are in Pennsylvania?) and they probably have lists of alumnae and they'll also have women graduating soon who may be interested. Once you get a small group together it will probably snowball, because they'll know a few people, who know a few people, etc. |
I feel the same way. Even though IHQ has a listing for a Rochester, NY Junior Circle, there really isnt one. I called the contact and she said things just never got going, but IHQ gives her a list every year of ppl who have moved into the are and might be interested in doing stuff. Im gonna see if she's planning anyting for IRD. If not I just might see about organizing a JC here myself or with her help.

Hey Donielle,
If there isn't a Junior Circle or Alumnae Club in your area.... the best thing for you to do is start one! What a wonderful opportunity! Like everyone else suggested, start with IHQ and Rebecca for the mailing list. A Delta Sigma sister now living in Chicago just started up a Junior Circle in her area, since all of the other alumnae groups were in the suburbs... too far for the downtown group. I'd love to put you in touch with her for some tips to get started, and as a former Hawaii Junior Circle President, I'd be happy to offer any help or suggestions you need... Send me a note when you get a chance... hawaiiagd@hotmail.com Would love to chat with you sometime anyway! I'm originally from Philadelphia.. In fact, I was just there in February visiting my sister and my adorable new nephew! Loyally, Mai Ly |
Well, I have wonderful news! To make a very long story short.... there's a new "unofficial" national junior circle website! (I'll post a new thread) www.geocities.com/juniorcircle

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I will keep you posted when I actually find the time to get things organized. :)
