Transfering chapters, help?

Hi! I am a wondering if yall could help me out I am transfering universities and want to affiliate with my sorority on my new campus I was wondering If any of yall have done this in the past or if you knew how I should approach the situation.

I've not transferred myself, but we have had several transfers into and out of my chapter. While there is a section in our National Constitution spelling out how to transfer chapters, we've never really followed those guidelines to a "T".

How it's happened in the past is that the guy will usually email us, and say that he's thinking about transferring, and would like to participate in our chapter. At some point he'll check out the campus, and while doing so, he'll stop by the house. If he and the chapter get along, he'll move into the house when he starts at our school, and he's given all the same rights and privileges as any other member in our chapter.

I'm pretty sure that all our guys who've gone somewhere else, have had about the same experience.

So I guess you're first move should be to simply call the chapter where you're going to be at, or call your Nat'l HQ and proceed from there.

Which sorority and where are you planning to attend school?

Ms. Texas,
Contact your Headquarters. All the NPC groups have a procedure for affiliating at another school. It usually involves a couple of forms, an officer approval and an interview with the chapter at your new school.

There are no groups that I know of that you can just 'claim' to be a sister of ABC and transfer to their chapter. Your membership must be verified by your national office and you affiliation approved by the local chapter.

If you are a ZTA, I can give you the exact procedure. E-mail me.

Don't expect the new chapter to be anything like your old one. Make sure you keep an open mind and get to know the new chapter's girls and traditions... keep in mind that you will be able to give your new chapter some great new ideas!

I agree with Finest Alum, and would further recommend that you hold off on affiliating for a couple of months to be absolutely sure that it's what you want to do. You'll probably have alum status with your inter/national when you transfer schools (and can possibly even move into the house, if that's an option), but once you affiliate, you generally can't return to alum status if/just because you change your mind. Good luck!
