I am bored to death with my hair!

Sorors and Sisterfriends Help!

I'm so sick of my hair. I'm the kind of person who get's bored with my hair often. Right now I'm in the process of growing it out. It's so funny cause back when I first cut my long hair my mom cursed me out telling me I would regret it. I have been snipping at it for the past 6 years, now I have finally come full circle and want my mane back! My hair is a little bit past my chin and I now wear it in a bob but I am so bored to death. Part of my problem is finding a good beautician. Most of the stylist here in South Florida can style your hair but when it comes to maintanence and hair care they are lacking in that arena. Does any one have any hair tips or products that they swear by that have helped them either to maintain your hair or during that growing out process?

Go for a very low maintenance do. I am currently wearing my hair rodded. For the first 2 or 3 days my shoulder lenght hair is super duper curly. By the 4th day the curls have fallen into a very soft and bouncy do, that I just love. I can go for almost 2 weeks without doing much more to my hair than finger fluffing.

Another cool " betweenie" do is getting a straw set. Straw sets last forever...okay, for a long while. I love African pride products and Hot Six oil is fabulous! I am a self professed hair hopper. I understand your pain. ;)

Well I use most of the Motions products. They work pretty well.
I too feel your pain on the beautician situation....most of the beauticians that I have been to have either tried to put some gelled up-greased out-weaved up hairstyle in my head, or some fuddy-duddy old school hairstyle in my head.

I used to frequent this salon back in early undergrad...but she got a bit crazy with the prices. (I am NOT paying 80 bucks for a touch up,....especially when I can get the same products down the street for MUCH LESS)...but I digress.

Just keep in mind that what may work on one's hair may be a nightmare on another...so I would suggest just trying different things and seeing how u like them.

Me Too

I have no idea on products, but I feel you as far as boredom and finding a stylist who can maintain you hair. I wore micro brawids for the last 3 years. Low maintence, but I got bored with it. Now just playing a phony pony that I'm bored with. The straw curl here cost $150, how long does it last? I like the look, but questioned the price.

Zetaphied,

I haven't had a relaxer in my hair for over four years. I went between pressing my hair and wearing braids. Finally two weeks ago, I cut my shouder length hair and am now sporting a 1 inch "fro. So far I am loving it!

I've always wanted to grow dreads, but that in between look just isn't me. I think i'm going to keep my hair in a pony tail for now, I am tired of flat ironing! I should at least give this mane some breathing room lol

I really like the Dark and Lovely products. They seem to do pretty well on hair management. Have you ever thought about micro braids? They are very low maintenance, and if you take care of them properly, they can even aid in your hair growing process. When I get them, they help my hair grow alot, but like I said, they can make or break you. Something to think about. :)

Few things are lower maintenance than a TWA (teeny weeny afro), but to keep it looking fresh, you'll have to stay on top of keeping your edges trimmed.

I've been locking for four months now, and I admit there are times when I look like crazy's mama, but I understand that this is a process I'm going through, and in time I'll have glorious, long, all-natural hair that I can wear a myriad of different ways.

What about hair colour, Zetaphied? I read in the April Essence that a new colour job can refresh your hair and make it look fuller, but I'd recommend having it done professionally if you're going to do it.

i don't know what other color i can try i've tried red, i've tried blond highlights, i've tried auburn...but everytime i dye my hair i always go back to jet black, I love my hair when its black as night ...perhaps a few strips of color here and there aren't bad.

I tend to get bored with my hair a lot too. My hair comes just below my shoulders and I love to try new things. But, instead of dying or cutting it everytime the wind blows, I get a sewn in weave. I started getting them regularly, at least every four months, about two years ago. I like to give my hair a rest because I try not to perm it more than four times a year.

The sewn in allows me to try new things while giving my real hair a much needed rest. It is braided up underneath so it can grow and be healthy without me touching it. I leave the front out so it looks completely natural. Every time I get it done, I keep it in about 4 - 6 weeks. In my opinion, it will start to look raggedy after that unless you buy the really expensive hair (like $200 -$2000 a pack  ).

I have worn it long, layered, in a bob, and I even had a very, very short one that looked like I had my hair tapered in the back. I have tried lots of styles and colors without doing a thing to my real hair.
