Any art lovers here?
Hey!
Though I cannot draw/paint/do anything artistic to save my life (except for applying makeup on others and myself), I really love looking at works of art. Also, one of the best presents that anyone ever gave me was this huge book of Impressionist art. My favorite types are Impressionist, Classical, Renaissance, and Baroque Art. I also really like Andy Warhol's work. My favorite artists are: Impressionist: Renoir, Degas, Monet, Manet, van Gogh Renaissance: Raphael (boy are his works beautiful!) da Vinci 1900s-type art: Rockwell, Warhol I also really enjoy Gothic architecture and architecture of the Romantic era. In fact, I like art so much that I'm considering a minor in Art History!! :) (Will add to the uselessness of my psych major ;).) |
I also think art's amazing, but am not the traditional type of art lover.
My love of art is composed of the more "wacky" genres. I go crazy when the local museum has an exhibition of Dada or Surrealist art. I find those imaginative, "out-there" types of art incredibly fascinating and wonderfully creative. I find this genre of art so rare and I wish more people would run with these beautifully individualist ideas. Awesome thread, by the way . . . this makes me want to run to the local museum, at 12:18 AM at night!;) CA theta |
I love art in architecture, that's one of he beauties of New Orleans. Even Wichita, Kansas has GARGOYLES on some of the older buldings.
Humor in art-when you see something that surprises you and makes you smile! RUBEN...the older I get, the more I LOVE that guy!!! Saw a wonderful display of Leonardo da Vinci in Houston-not just his art, but his inventions as well...what a genius! I really like Grandma Moses. |
I'm a bit of an art fan. I'm taking an art history class here in France and we've covered Gothic and Classic renaissance art...alot of Boticelli, DaVinci, Giotto etc... I'm leaving tomorrow to spend Easter in Florence Italy (despite the state department announcements that there are credible threats against American citizens in Italy for Easter weekend) and I plan to see alot of Renaissance art there. Alot of the Medici family artwork is on display in Florence as well as the statue of David.

My absolute favorite painting ever is The Last Supper by Salvador Dali. It has this shadow body coming out over the table, and in the background there is a river, its just cool. I like surelist works. Anything that touches my soul is good. I also like the one with John the Bapsits severed head being served on one of those covered metal plates. They used to have it in monticello as was Tom Jefferson's favorite, but the toursist board took it down because it scared little kids. I was in fourth grade when I saw it, it didn't scare me. Everyone thought it was jesus. Oh well.
Any pictures of knights or kings or anything like that i like too. |
I like the Impressionist era.

I'm a fan of 20th century art...especially surrealism & "pop" art from the 1960's. I enjoy architecture, but can't tell you much about it other than it looks really cool :o
If you enjoy more "modern" art and are near Pittsburgh, PA I highly recommend the Andy Warhol museum...it's the largest single-artist museum in the U.S. & is quite informative. And if you enjoy his work, you'll be in heaven for 4 entire floors! |
YES
OK, YES!:)

I love art, but my pref is Dali. Back in 7th grade my class had to randomly choose an artist and I chose him & have loved his work ever since. I got to see an exhibit of his in London when I was there, mostly sculptures, but a lot of paintings as well. None of them were the famous paintings, but all of them were his famous sculptures. It was really cool, but damn he's an odd character...

I enjoy a different aspect of the "fringe" art - I love Rothko, and also am a big fan of Kadinsky. Good stuff - check it out
