Big/Lil Sis Revealing Poem

Long Version:
Okay, I need help, bad. When the big/lil sis's are revealed in my chapter, the big reads her new lil a poem. Here's my dealy-o. My family tree is HURTING! While my grand-big is a major force in the sorority, she graduated in December (and is now alumni). I have just suspeneded my big sis (i'm treasurer) and my current lil sis is having a crisis on whether or not to remain at our school, or to transfer to where her family is moving. This leaves me as the only active in my family tree. this is reason #1 for taking another lil sis.

This semester's new member class is bigger than last semesters, and with a couple of girls on probation, the chance to have another lil sis is being offered to those of us who already already bigs. there is one particulare new member who stands out in terms of personality matches, and i really like her, so I am taking her as my (2nd) lil sis.

anyway, now that everyone has WAY more information than needed, on to the reason for this post. unlike a couple of the family trees in my chapter, there is not a single poem that gets passed down with every big/lil combo. I need a poem to read to my new lil sis at the revealing ceremony. My current lil sis will be there, and while i want to show my new lil sis how important she is, i don't want my current lil to feel left out. I was thinking of giving them both a poem, but i'm not finding anything i like on the web! I'm gonna post the poem i read to my current lil sis at the end so you can all get a feel for kinda maybe what i'm looking for

Short Version:
I need a poem for my new lil sis, and a poem for my current lil sis.

Poem From Last semester:
Laugh and I'll laugh with you
Weep and I'll weep too,
For whatever comes to criticize you
Is there to criticize me too.

Work and I'll work with you
Fight and I'll fight too,
For whatever barrier needs breaking
Can be broken by me and you.

Think and I'll think with you
Dream and I'll dream too,
For few share such visions
As are shared by me and you.

Worship and I'll worship with you
Love and I'll love too,
For these are the things worth doing,
And can be done by me and you.

Sisters are like the stars...you can't always see them,
but you know they are always there.

hmmm

okay, i give up! I cannot find any relevant poems on the web, they are all about "blood sisters" and about growing up together.

Any Ideas Out There?

There's a poem I've seen that's called sister's by soul.. I tried to find it but I can't seem to find it anywhere.. mayve someone else around here has heard of it or has it. I think that it might work for you..

Here is one. I do not know if it is suitable for big sis/lil sis revealing, but it is a good sister poem.

A Sister Like You
By Brad Handley

When I sit in the shade,
and look up at a sky of blue...
I thank God for giving me
a sister like you.
When I walk down the street in a crowd,
so heartless and cruel...
I thank God for giving me
a sister like you.

When I'm tired and sore
and I just want to sleep,
when I'm sickened with sadness
and my heart's in a heap.
When I just want to move away
and say it's all through...
I really thank God
for a sister like you.

While the darkness gathers around me
And I start to lose my way,
I search the sky for the brightest star
It's my sister, what else can I say?!

She shows me how to be strong and hopeful
How to deal with doubts and fear,
My sister helps me slay the dragon
Every time it comes near

So when I'm at my lowest
And things have gone too far
I navigate through troubled waters
Guided by the Brightest Star!

To a Special Sister

A sister is one of the nicest things that can happen to anyone.

She is someone to laugh with and share with,
to work with and join in the fun.

She is someone who helps in the rough times
and knows when you need a warm smile.

She is someone who will quietly listen
when you just want to talk for awhile.

A sister is dear to you always,
for she is someone who is always a part
of all the favorite memories
that you keep very close to your heart.

There is no Friend like a Sister

There's no better friend than a sister -
There's no one more loyal and true . . .
and even when sisters are different . . .
their likeness come shining through!

Perhaps it's a family resemblance that strengthens the bond they share . . .
or maybe it's just that sisters live life with a similar flair!
A sister remembers your collegehood -
She knows more than you will admit of times you were Little Miss Perfect . . .
and times you gave others a fit!
She's seen you in some situations when silence just wouldn't suffice . . .
and managed somehow to get by with those sisterly words of advice!

And when some encouragement's needed . . .
a sister will always be there . . .
to listen . . .
to laugh . . .
or to lean on . . .
to comfort, or simply to care.

There's no one who's more in your corner . . .
and no one you're more grateful to.
There's no better friend than a sister . . .
and no better sister than you.

Sisters

I've swore to be you friend forever,
and hurt you purposely, I would never.
through the good times and bad,
this sisterly love we should always endeavor.

You have been by my side through times sad,
and for that I thank you, and I'm very glad,
to have a sister like you.
although many times you have made me quite mad.

The friendship we have we will always hold true,
to bring each other up when one is feeling blue.
Always will there be a special place in my heart,
and nothing could ever tear this friendship apart.

When you need me

Watch you ever carefully
You're always next to me
Holding you within my heart
I'll love you constantly

Need me for the smallest thing
I'm always at your side
Giving you the peace of mind
The love I cannot hide

Placed within the memories
As days of life go by
You and I forever hold
These gifts that will reside

A special touch I've given you
Will last through many years
No matter what I'll always be
The one to dry your tears

Hand that reaches always near
To help you if you fall
Turn around and see me now
This love you will recall

All the love I give you now
Forever we will share
Sweet bouquets of life we give
Are blessings we will wear.

Oh My Goodness

WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!!

That is amazing!!! Thank you so much for all of that hard work, how did you ever find these poems! I think I'm going to use the Mary Englebeit poem for my new lil sis, and the one about stars for my current lil sis. Thank You so much, this is amazing!

I did find this poem, which I'm going to present to my big sis, when I finish her afgan that I'm crocheting. (it's kinda my family tree thing. I made one for my current lil sis, working on my big sis's, and when that gets finished, my new lil sis will get one. ~~ hopefully, I'll have enough time to make my grand lil one too - if my tree will ever grow that far!)

any way poem for big sis
It's not in the hand, though I know that its there
To catch me from falling, and guide me with care

It's not in the ears, though I know that they hear
My hopes and my sorrows, my joys and my fears

It's not in the lips, though they always do say
Words to encourage, that show me the way

It's not in the tears, though you shed them with me
To comfort my weakness, when I am in need

It's in knowing you're there, no matter the time or the place
Across any distance, you're my saving grace

You give of yourself, and you give of your heart
It's often hard to distinguish, where you end and I start

Our bond is a circle, with no beginning or end
You're not only a sister, but a deeply loved friend

Once again, I can't thank you enough!

Star Turtle,

You are welcome. I love to randomly e-mail sister poems to my sisters so when I saw your post I had to help! :)

BTW, I loved this last poem you posted! It is so beautiful!
