Sigh.....

Well, I guess it had to happen sooner or later. I just wish it could have been later.

Dear Members of the Academy Community:

This letter is to inform you that tuition charges at the Academy of Art College will be increased, effective for the Fall 2002 semester. Undergraduate tuition will be $550 per unit and graduate tuition will be $600 per unit. Consequently, tuition at the Academy will amount to approximately $13,200 per year at undergraduate level and $14,400 at the graduate level (excluding course fees, etc.). The Academy strives to maintain its tuition at an affordable level and this is the first increase in two years.

The Academy is committed to maintaining competitive tuition rates and continues to be one of the most affordable private art schools in the nation. For local comparison, undergraduate tuition at the SF Art Institute and at College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland is $21,220 and $20,620 respectively.

The Academy, unlike many other colleges, does not routinely increase its tuition. Tuition increases are determined on an as needed basis. We have recently expanded our existing facilities to include the Church, which now houses the Liberal Arts classes. In addition, the Academy of Art College continues to invest a significant portion of its financial resources in classroom and lab equipment as described below.

We have also developed significant guest speaker programs to bring the greater art community to our campus.

Raised Tuition

Dear NinjaPoodle,

I know how it feels when tuition is about to be raised...it just happened at my school (CAU). When the student body heard about the proposed tuition raise of 9%, we had a fit! We were not having that! So we came together as one and protested! We stood outside of the administration building at let the administrators have it! Although tuition was raised, it was not raised the projected 9%...it was raised 6%. I'm not saying to rally up the troops and protest. I'm just saying that I understand what a tuition raise feels like, and I does not feel good especially when you dont have the money. Your sister friend, Yemaya.

Sorhor Ninjapoodle and sisterfriend,

I believe that this trend is happening on most campuses across the USA. I know that a lot of the Universities in Virginia are raising their rates as well! Isn't grand that you are not an undergraduate student for more that 4 or 5 years!

Serioussigma22:(

I feel your pain!!!

straightBOS 03-27-2002 02:39 AM

I guess I'm the only one who is wayyyy to used to it.

My tuition goes up $500 every semester.

Yeah, do the math, :( , four years...7 semesters so far.....

I hope you have the funds to pay because school's show NO MERCY when it comes to those "little letters" and phone calls they like to make.

At least you guys get the rundown of the new equipment that has been purchased. I have yet, to see a receipt. :o

NinjaPoodle 03-27-2002 03:30 AM

Thanks for feeling my pain.:( Of course, there are worse things going on in the world but I had to gripe about it.
It's a good school and at least I know where my money is being spent. (i'm a photography major)

Sorhors and sisterfriends,

What you need to do is make the most out of your college career! When I walked out of the University of Delaware as an undergraduate I had two minors under my belt as well as the major! Use all of the facilities to the fullest, campus career center, computer labs, etc. Get your money's worth out of the university!

Good suggestions, SeriousSigma22.. I know that when I was an undergrad, I made sure I got the most for my money. I joined lots of other student organizations, and was sent to represent the university at several conferences in New York, San Francisco, Austin, TX, and Dakar, Senegal. I recieved lots of promotional swag from companies that we did business with, and as director/manager of a couple of the organizations, I received a (small, but welcome) student leader stipend.

If they're going to bleed you dry, it's up to you to try to get as much bang for your buck.

Thank you my sister in greekdom,

Thanks SoTrue1920 for backing me up on the suggestions for getting the most bang for your buck! Because you can only make lemonade out of lemons! Undergraduates across America's colleges and universities make your experience the best and get involved with as many campus activities that will make your resume look good and help you strive for academic excellence!
