Greeks at Jesuit Schools

I was recently asked about other Jesuit universities having GLOs (national or local). Can anyone let me know if they know of any Jesuit universities with GLOs and which ones have them...thanks!

Rockhurst University in Kansas City has TKE, Pike and a Catholic GLO that I can't remember the name of. SAE has been there for years and is on probation, but I'll bet they'll be back when the smoke clears.

ASA is there too. We have been doing most of our expanding the past few years onto religiously affiliated campuses. I'm not sure which are Jesuit though, I think at least some of them are. Here is our current chapter list so you can see if any of them ring a bell.

Greeks at LMU

Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles has 6 sororities: Delta Zeta, Delta Gamma, Alpha Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Sigma Lamda Gamma and Delta Sigma Theta; and 5 frats: Sig Ep, Sigma Chi, Lambda Chi, Alpha Delta Gamma (a Jesuit frat), and Sigma Lambda Beta.

Marquette University (WI) has greeks - I not exactly sure which ones, though (AXiD, Triangle, and a bunch of others)

Loyola University (Chicago) has some as well - Kappa Beta Gamma, and I'm also not sure the others

University of Detroit Mercy - Kappa Beta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Delta (?), Sigma Pi, and others which I'm also not sure of off the top of my head.

St Louis University may also have a greek system

Actually, most (but not all) of the Catholic Universities in the US are Jesuit (though some are Dominican, Franciscan, and Norbertine). The best bet would be to check a school's about page and then go to student life. There are a lot of schools out there. . .

Actually, there are 28 Jesuit universities. I'm not sure of the number of Catholic universities. Anyway, thanks for the replies everyone:)

Saint Louis U. does indeed have a Greek system. Their list of student organizations is here: http://www.slu.edu/html/student_organizations.html

Rockhurst also has a ZTA chapter.

Fordham U. in NYC does not have a Greek system.

It's not mentioned on the SLU website, but Delta Gamma is also on that campus- they were a colony for a while and their charter as a chapter was just installed last semester. My best friend is one :)

Creighton has Alpha Phi, Theta Phi Alpha, Delta Zeta, Pi Beta Phi and Gamma Phi Beta.

Fraternities include: Phi Delta Theta, Phi Kappa Psi , Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon , Sigma Phi Epsilon

On a related trivia note...Kappa Beta Gamma used to have multiple chapters and was a member of the NPC. I withdrew from the NPC when they dropped to only 2 or 3 chapters nationally. I *think* the remaining chapters still communicate with one another, but I don't know what kind of national structure is still in existence. There are chapters at University of DEtroit-Mercy, Loyola-Chicago, St. Norbert College. There used to be a chapter at Loyola-New Orleans.

Kappa Beta Gamma actually does have a central office (in Detroit), National officers, etc. They also just recently installed their 5th active chapter (Northern Michigan University) and there is another colony at Findlay University. Chapters are currently located at UD-Mercy, St Norbert, Loyola University, Marian College, and the two previously mentioned. They are currently working on expanding and all that fun stuff. :)

Sarah

P.S. I know this because I'm helping set up their national archives and work with the chapters on theirs.

Beryana,
That's so cool! I know for a while there was no expansion on their behalf. Maybe things will get back to the point where they might consider rejoining the NPC.

Not many of their chapters have web sites - the one that I did find a couple of years ago indicated that they were pretty much 'on their own'. Glad to hear things are turning around for them.

Their national website is:

http://64.176.185.61/ (obviously not something that's really easy to find. . . )

I also think the only chapter site is at Northern Michigan University (www.geocities.com/kappa_beta_gamma)

I'm really glad that they are growing - and I think they are looking at eventually joining NPC

Santa Clara has Alpha Phi and Delta Gamma. The greek system is not recognized by the university though.
