Rush Video

I was just curious to see if any of you use a day of recruitment where you show a rush video. If so what songs do you use? In the past we've used "These are the days you will remember", "I hope you dance", "Follow me", "Aint no mountain high enough", and "all she wants to do is dance".
Any cute ideas?

For the past two years, my chapter has used recruitment videos and I think they work really well. We used songs like "Brown Eyed Girl," "Lean On Me," "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," "We Are Family," "These Are The Days," and "I'll Be There For You."

For other song suggestions, check out my "Sisterhood CD" thread in the Chit Chat forum. :)

Try using some older/more obscure songs. If every chapter does a rush video there are chances that some of the more obvious/popular songs will be used previously, and rushees will get tired of hearing the same thing. (This was touched on in a thread where we found out we ALL sang "Pass It On" at some point in our rushee/sister life ;)) Plus if you use a song that is specific to your chapter, the rushees will be able to look at your faces when it is playing and tell it has special meaning to you.

I'm the assistant rush chair, and we are refusing to use Girls Just Wanna Have Fun this year; all 5 of the houses I went to for round 3 last fall had that song in their video. We're trying to find older songs that aren't used as often. You can also check in your GLO's forum to see if anyone at another school uses a song you don't; I got a new cheer that way.

On the bright side, we were the only chapter to use "Pass It On"
:D

for some reason, the sororities at BGSU in ohio all have this thing with "she was" by the talking heads.

during the part where they sing "... and she was..." they all sing "...and she was, she was an alpha gam (insert the shortened nickname for your chapter here), yah yah she was an alpha gam..." it's pretty cute and it's an older song. yeah!

by the way, when you sing the alternate part there, it fits perfectly with the song.

We just finished up our rush video. Thanks for the ideas. We have the cutest songs and the one I'll share is "Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend", because a diamond is ADPI's symbol, of course.

I don't remember all the songs, but I remember (of course) Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Livin' On a Prayer by Bon Jovi, and Somewere Over the Rainbow...not the movie version, the really pretty version which for the life of me I cannot figure out who sang it. (BTW-if anyone knows who sang it let me know!!)

Our rush video this past year was set up like an episode of the Real World......this is the true story of 80 girls....... At the end of the video we had pictures all of dressed up at date parties and formals playing with the song "Bootylicious"

We always use "Sweet Home, Alabama" and sing "Kappa Gamma" in place of Alabama... I can't hear that song without smiling now because of it.

songs!

my fave is "when you come back down" by nickel creek. we use it for the section where we're showing all of the graduating seniors. also, you should use a song thats an inside joke in your chapter. my chapter for some reason has always had Sir Mixalot's I like Big Butts, and MC Hammers Cant Touch THis in small parts of our video because we always DIE laughing when it comes on. it stems from when we are at the house during a serious meeting or if we have been up late during rush and someone starts singing these songs--- then we are all SCREAMING the words. we all know the words and its so fun---- these songs just put us in a good mood. so then, they are like our own personal jokes. when they play during rush it always puts us in the best mood- its sooooooooo funny. if your chapter has songs that you all think are so stupid but that you all love, youshould put them in your video because then the PNMs can see how much fun you have as a chapter.

i would DEFINTELY stay away from all the cliche songs like Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and anything similar-- they are all so overplayed. we always have a huge mix of different songs to fit our personalities- and it sure works during rush!!

Song ideas

When I made our rush video I used small clips of songs, so everyone could sing those parts. I had 20 songs for a ten minute video, but at least no one got bored. I put a list on my door and everyone wrote what they would like to hear for each section. It worked really well!

La la la...

Ok, I've gotten ahold of our Rush video from last year (my roomies really wanted to see it, they're interested in Rush... except totally not. But after watching it, my male roomie Doug wiped away a fake tear and said he wanted to join a sorority. And I think he was half serious!!!) and watched it for the songs...

We started out with Lady Marmelade from Moulin Rogue. For the Spirit section we use the FSU Tomahawk Chop, which is played about a million times at the football games. For Sisterhood, a song called Friends Forever..? For Philanthropy, that song that is like "Girl you're my angel, you're my darling angel, closer than my peeps you are to me"... I don't know who it's by. Then for Scholarship, it's Stronger by Britney Spears. Then I didn't know the song for Social, but it was She Thinks my Tractor's Sexy for Hayride, and Leave Me Breathless for Formal. The last song/closing moments were that Sarah McLaughlin song, Will You Remember Me? (what is the title..?)

Overall, I think we had a decent rush video, but the copy I have is a bit crappy. The quality could be better, I think it should be more clean and classy.

The song you are talking about is by Shaggy.
