I Hate Computers
So my incredibly intelligent roommate uses my laptop and leaves it on the side of the dresser, open with the cords hanging. I come home in the dark and try to go turn a light on and the damn thing fall. Yep, broken screen, unuseable computer. I called tech and a "range" price to replace the screen is $425 plus shipping. They won't know until it gets there. Or, I could buy a new one and then have them take all the hard drive info off mine for $150 plus shipping. I don't have the $150 let alone 425 or a new laptop. This sucks!

I am sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can get it replaced or repaired soon. Best of luck.

I think I may get a refurbished one from gateway. All i really need are the basic microsoft applications and internet access.

Did you buy a warranty? If you paid with a credit card, your computer might have a one year warranty automatically. You should look into this before you spend hundreds of dollars. Good luck!
|
I'd ask your roommate to help with the cost of the computer -- and have it be off-limits to roomies from now on! Sorry that this has happened. I know it's frustrating! :(

I wish it was still covered by warranty but it was 2 years old and a gift paid for with cash. I'm just so frustrated right now.

awww. hun i am sorry i know how frustrating it is not to have a computer, i agree that the roomie should have to help front the bill... hope everything works out for ya soon ...

Ouch - sorry to hear it. :(
My advice: Go out and buy a new computer - desktop or laptop, whatever. You can get a good low-end computer for a few hundred - or buy a refurbished one, as you mentioned. Get your roommate to give you some $$$ toward it. Then, borrow someone's monitor and plug it into your old laptop (so you can see what you're doing), network the two machines together, go to the old laptop and set your hard drive to "shared", and copy everything to the new machine. Scavenge the old machine for parts (ethernet card, mouse, RAM, etc) then toss it. |
Damn, that really bites. I'm with Tom on this one; it seems only fair to enact retribution on those that piss us off. Maybe you could look around on ebay or something and buy a replacement screen cheap there and get the tech guys to do the switch....
