Poem- IS YOUR PLEDGING IN VAIN
 

Here is a poem a soror sent me and I thought I'd share it with the group. It makes you take a look at yourself


IS YOUR PLEDGING IN VAIN?

NO MATTER IF IT'S 2 WEEKS, 2 MONTHS, OR 2 YEARS OF "HUMBLING" PAIN, WAS YOUR PLEDGING IN VAIN?
OKAY YOU WENT OVER, NOW ARE YOU PREPARING FOR
THE NEXT LINE TO WEAR YOUR CROWN,
DO YOU AT LEAST HAVE A COMMUNITY SERVICE IN THIS TOWN,
OR DO YOU SPEND YOUR TIME TORMENTING THE ONE'S THAT WANT TO BE DOWN?
CAN YOU SAY YOU LOVE AND HONOR YOUR SOROR OR FRAT BROTHER,
BUT HAVE THE AUDACITY TO SPEAK THEIR BUSINESS AMONGST OTHERS.
FOR MEETINGS, HAVE YOU BEEN THE "PREPARER",
OR ARE YOU JUST A T-SHIRT WEARER?
TELL ME, DID THOSE THREE LETTERS MAKE YOU BETTER,
OR JUST MAKE YOU A "FORGETER"......
BY FORGETTING TO RESPECT OTHERS AND TO RESPECT YOURSELF.
DO YOU THINK THAT HAZING IS A MEANS TO ACCUMULATE WEALTH?
AND IF YOU WERE HAZED, SO WHAT,
THAT DOESN'T GIVE YOU ANY EXCUSE TO BEAT SOMEONE ELSE UP OUT OF THE "CUT".
NOW DON'T READ THIS AND ASSUME THAT THE WRITER IS INSANE,
I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHY YOU WOULD PLEDGE IN VAIN.
AFTER ALL THOSE NIGHTS ON THE SET,
DOING ALL THOSE THINGS YOU KNOW YOU REGRET,
AND YOUR FOUNDERS, AFTER ALL THEIR HARD WORK AND SWEAT,
YOU STILL HAVEN'T FIGURED IT OUT YET.
DID YOUR ORGANIZATION HAVE A COOKOUT AND YOU INVITED EVERYONE AS YOUR
FRIEND,
OR DID YOU INDIRECTLY SAY THAT ONLY GREEKS COULD ATTEND?
AND REMEMBER THAT PARTY IN THE GYM,
DID YOU "BLACK BALL" THAT PERSON BECAUSE THEY
WERE DANCING WITH HER OR HIM.
AND DID YOU WAIT UNTIL THE HOMECOMING STEP SHOW,
TO POINT THEM OUT TO YOUR SORORS AND YOUR BROS? ALSO,
AT HOMECOMING, DO YOU ANTICIPATE MEETING OLDER MEMBERS TO
ACQUIRE THEIR KNOWLEDGE,
OR DO YOU AVOID THEM BECAUSE YOU'RE AFRAID TO BE CHALLENGED?
> ARE YOU CORDIAL WHEN PEOPLE ADMIRE WHAT YOU "GOT",
> OR DO YOU CUT YOUR EYES WHEN THEY WALK PASS YOUR PLOT?
> I JUST DON'T KNOW, ITS SOMETHING ABOUT 3 LETTERS THAT CAUSES SOME
> PEOPLE TO CHANGE,
MAYBE IT'S THEIR LINE NAME,
OR MAYBE ITS ALL THE ATTENTION THEY GAINED,
OR MAYBE, AND SAD TO SAY, MAYBE, THEY PLEDGED IN VAIN!

Great Poem!!:) Although i am but a humble prospective, this poem is a tool i can use to learn from if i am ever granted the chance to become a member of this great organization.

Why Did You Pledge????
 

Do You Just Belong?

Are you an active member
The kind that you would be missed?
Or are you just contented
That your name is on the list?

Do you attend the meetings and
Mingle with the flock?
Or do you just stay at home
to criticize and knock?

Do you take an active part
to help the work along?
Or are you satisfied
To only just belong?

Do you work with your committee
And get right in and mix?
Or leave the work to just a few
And talk about the "CLIQUES"?

Think this over MEMBER-----------
You know right from wrong!
Are you an active member
or DO YOU JUST BELONG?"
