"Greater Service, Greater Progress"

Aside from Walks and Fundraising, What are some of the ongoing community efforts that sorors are involved with , either on a chapter or individual level?

We put the motto to work at a local shelter for homeless and poor women. My chapter serves lunch/dinner, does kitchen duty, has clothes drives, and contributes toiletries. We also raised over 500 dollars during the holiday season for the shelter (Rosie's Place.)

We serve there at least once a month and invite others to come out with us.

Sorhor Knowledge1922,

Some of the programs that Eta Iota Sigma completed are the following: Operation Buckle-up America, March of Dimes, Lorna Norfleet Memorial Scholarship Fund, Toys for Tots, The Baptist Home Association for Girls (Decorating their doors, Adopting a girl for the holidays, remodeling the library at the home, etc.) Collection of African American Childrens books as well as Operation BigBookBag, etc. Each year it seems that we actually do between 15 and 20 different national and local community projects.

Well, for the past seven[7] years, I've been involved with the Northern California Sickle Cell Summer Camp. 98 percent of the kids[that come to camp] are Af-American and the rest are usually of Hispanic/Latino background. It's very emotional work which is one of the reasons why I hold such high esteem towards teachers.
