Non Traditional Greek Alliances for Party Purposes
Y'all.. I'm still trippin'... a phenomenon like I NEVER thought I
would see is going on at my Alma Mater UAB. The Sigma's, who traditionally have their week with the Zeta's (last week was Zeta Week) have somehow talked the Alpha's (who've never shared a week with ANYBODY) into having BLUE-ICE WEEK at UAB. I haven't stopped laughing since I saw the poster last night. Now, I know some are gonna be like,"It's showing Greek U.N.I.T.Y." AND all that B.s. so be it... But, the Sigmas are already united with the Zeta's.. so, you know something is up between those two entities on the yard. I called my old head UAB Alpha friends last night.. AND THEY'RE IN DISBELIEF & UPSET... Is this a sign of things to come? I can't call it.. but if the UAB QUES and Kappas ever decide to have PRETTY NASTY WEEK.., you're gonna see a old Head QUe named Swamp Thang beat er'QUE neo and undergrad responsible in public... Personally speaking.. I don't care what others do.. It's not gonna kill anybody..... to each his own.. Crimson Ivy week (can't see it).. Poodle Dove Week (can't see it) [put together whatever other combos you'd like] |
i feel ya
That's funny...:D... Pretty Nasty Week! I mean the name kinda works! :)
But on the real, it's not the first time I've heard of other organizations joining together. I didn't attend a HBCU, therefore, I'm not sure how common of a practice it is at those schools, or any school for that fact. Greeks at my alma mater did it for various reasons. Yes, unity may be the surface reason, but other factors usually play into account. Such as financial. Hey Greek-lettered organizations are businesses and it sometimes is in an organizations best financial interest to do joint efforts. At my school we never did do combined weeks, that is bit of a stretch! Even the Zetas and Sigmas had there own weeks! But examples of joint Greek events have been called: "Fire and Ice" with the DST and APhiA, "Sigma Love" with PBS and SGRho (yes the Zetas were  furious, actually this event was held after I grad and I laughed when I heard of it... please don't take that the wrong way anyone, just knew there would be some tension due to the ZPBS connection) and there was even talk of a possible "Diamonds and Pearls" event with KAPsi and AKA. There have been other collarobations that I can recall in which the names don't correspond w/ an organizations characterists (ie. Sankofa traditionally held with KAPsi and SGRho). Now that I think of it, most of the collaborations were frat/sorority or two sororities, don't recall any with two frats... .... oh well........ But I do respect your frustation. I mean an organization's week really is THEIR time to shine ALONE! I would probably be shocked if I saw/heard of that at my undergrad chapter! But great bonds and connections are formed through such ventures... :) .... I say that speaking as a former VP of my campuses NPHC chapter! So tell me, how success was "Blue Ice?" ---------- Blue and Gold Rules EVERYTHING around me!!! EEEEEEEEE-YIP! |
Greek Unity (The future of the DEVINE NINE)
With the start of the NPHC, our organizations have started a Unity Movement. With this movement, I believe we as Black Bros and Sisters (FIRST) and respective organizations will have a bigger impact and be more powerful. I don't think the Sigmas are a threat to Alpha. I don't see the Sigmas (or any other orgs) as enemies of Alpha. Everyone strives to be the best and shine the brightest which stimulates competition and HEALTHY rivalries. But in my opinion (from an older, maturer, and graduate perspective) I am excited to see organizations working together and having a combined week with another frat is a bold step in the RIGHT direction. I cannot see any (ANY) negative in working with another org or having a joint party, program, community service project, week, etc.
In college, I lived in a town house with 4 bros and a G.B.I. (God Blessed Individual). The following semester he pleged Q. Since we had all been cool, it wasn't nuthin but a thang. We competed fiercely with the Qs but at the end of the day we were friends and it wasn't that serious. It was for fun. I can see why most younger college bros would trip over a joint week, because they don't really see the big picture as clearly as older bros. I don't understand why older heads would trip...they are grown ass men in the work force and should have more serious things about the relationship between black people to trip about |
We've taken U.N.I.T.Y. out of context
greetings APhiAce
My thing is.. we're already unified.. it's called the NPHC Rivalry was always a part of Greek life. A part that is often taken too far, but it is a part of its existence. If we all thought alike and wanted to be alike, there would only be one FRAT (Omega of course). :-) What's makes this seem so strange to me is that it's Two Frats instead of a frat and Sorortity + it's not a one night fundraiser BUT A WHOLE WEEK. But once again.. To each his own.... Oil and water don't mix.. Gangstaz don't dance, they BOOGIE.. and the QUES need not *chris tucker* evah-eva-eva-eva have a JAM with another Male NPHC org. now.. that just goes for the Bruhs.. any other NPHC frats that want to Collabo like Ja Rule and (the R&B Singer of the month).. It's all gravy.. TO EACH HIS OWN |
What's worse....a joint National Convention or a Joint Week?
This may be inaccurate information, but...
Speaking of collabos with Sigmas... I read that Omega Psi Phi and Phi Beta Sigma held a joint International Convention. In my opinion, it WOULD be inappropriate to hold a Joint National Convention (I believe THAT is what NPHC is for). I think that a joint National Convention is worse than having a joint week (which is no big deal for me). I guess (if this is joint convention DID happen) some of the Ques and Sigmas Executive National Officers disagree with me. Nevertheless I respect everyones opinion about "collabos". Just because I don't see anything negative about having joint week's, doesn't mean that it is not negative. |
Hell naw
I crossed back in 1999 and there ain't no way in the hell that i'm having anything with any other Frat. That's just taking unity to damn far. I 'll do my thing with with the pretty ladies of AKA but that's it. If I wanted to hang around ques or sigmas then I would have joined one of those frats. In the words of the nappy roots HELL NAW!

C'mon AphiAce.. why even reach like that
Where... would you read something like that?
Since the beginning.. Omega's Conclaves have consisted only of the Body Of the members of Omega Psi Phi... |

HELL NAW! If I ever wanted to be a Delta I could have been. If I wanted to be a Zeta I would have checked myself into a psychiatric ward. Loath be the day if I ever wanted to be a Sigma Gamma Rho,... well I would have had to just kill myself. |

I've been a silent observer for quite some time. After reading this, I had to respond. EndRoad, I understand that you're trying to make a point but you did not have to disrespect my organization, Sigma Gamma Rho and Zeta Phi Beta. No org in my opinion, is better than another. We should uplift and encourgage one another as members of BGLO's, instead of always putting each other down. |
And Doggystyle wonders where I get my comments from... Spoken in the words of a MATURE greek, if you need to put another organization down to lift yours up, then perhaps it's not as good as you think...Shine on positive greeks

No need to comment, just share my testimony. Proud to be able to feel and live out these sweet, sweet words.
Phenomenal Sigma By: Rock`s Poetic Justice Adapted from Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou Young Lady have you looked at a sorority? Well look no more I am here for you to see, Think each organization is simply the same? Just think again it`s all in our name. I say it`s in the community work we do, the lives we change, the chosen few, I am a Sigma woman Phenomenally, Phenomenal Sigma That`s me! I walk with great pride, Don`t mistake it for conceit, When others see me, they smile, wink and say I`m unique. I say it`s in the pride of my steps, the smile that is kept, the love that`s exhumbed, the positive light I bring to a room. I am a Sigma Woman Phenomenally, Phenomenal Sigma that`s me! The other Sororities have wondered what you see in me, They look real hard but can`t see what you see. When I try and show them they think I`m crazy. I say, it`s in my positive attitude and upbeat song, My confident look with the special attention I took. I am a Sigma woman, Phenomenally, Phenomenal Sigma that`s me! Now you can understand just why I`m so proud, I don`t need to brag or boast or scream it aloud. Sigma Gamma Rho is in my heart and in my soul, According to me, it`s the only way to go. I say it`s in the work that I do, the words that I say, the children I affect in that special loving way. The elderly I care for, teaching others to do the same, The respect I give to you by simply remembering your name. Cause I`m a Sigma Woman, PHENOMENALLY, PHENOMENAL SIGMA, THAT`S ME!! Not cool..but here we go!
@ENROAD:
No we are not having fun...so dont try to back down now that someone has stepped to you. Be a woman about it and hold your ground. But, that would be a little hard for you since your process consisted of 72 hours of bullshit. |

Wow. That blew my mind. I dunno, sis, maybe it's neo fever? I can't think of any other reason, other than ignorance or stupidity, so it must be neo fever, girl! :D ---End of side comment of your board, gentlemen of Alpha-- Generally, I think it's unusual to see an entire week with two "fraternities", as it is far more common to see a fraternity and a sorority (my chapter hosted events with both Sigma and Omega) host a single event together. Then again, the "eventual Greek world" (my Sorors know what I'm talking about here) is in such sorry shape, maybe we need to start understanding that if one group falls off, that's an excuse for a campus to get rid of ALL of us. Therefore, it's incumbent for more people to respect the power of the "eventual Greek world" outside of our ability to host step shows. |
