I hate Finals!

I'm on the quarter system here at UCLA and I am right now sitting at my desk struggling to write 2 4pg. papers due tomorrow at twelve. It is on "Cultural and Intellectual Thought of 20th Century Europe. Thus, it is about Freud, Thomas Mann, and other writer/philosophers like Sartre. Yes, I know I procrastinated just as I am right now writing this. It is so unbelievably HARD, and I am here wanting to cry while I sit at my computer. I don't know how I am going to finish them and to top it off they are worth 70% of my grade! Sorry about this just had to vent. So, if you think your day is bad, it is not nearly as bad as mine!
:(

Oh...don't you just love the UC quarter system?

I empathize completely. The past two weeks have been hell for me. I spent last week completing a 20 page paper of fronteir american west worth 95% of my grade. Then I had to bust out an entire project that I was suppose to have been working on for a month in one night. I was also planning my Big Sis' 21st birthday and managing guetst reservations, and HER! ;)I also had 2 more 10 pagers due today, a grade determining final tommorow and a huge Law and Society paper due Thursday. I have been living off Xenadrine, coffee and Vivran. Not the most salubrious method, yet effective. When it comes to finals, my body just has to understand how Machiavellian students truly are.

pbpck,
I knew you, another UC student, would know what I was going through. I can't describe how tired I am right now. I just turned my 2 papers which ended up being 7 and 5 pages each and I stayed up all night to write them! Time for some sleep and then up later tonight to study for 2 in class essay finals tomorrow! At least they are my last ones.

Good Luck on Finals to all of you out there that are on the quarter system although we are few and far between!

:)

Cry now you Fine Upstanding College Kids, for upon Graduating, you spend the rest of your live WORKING! That Sucks!:(

In by 7:00 out by 6:00! Eat fall asleep and get up and go to bed! Next Day Guess What, do it all over again!

If I had not gotten married my Senior year, I would still be in school!

Should never have gotten married and have been happily single for 16 yrs! http://www.plauder-smilies.de/bounce/anim-jjd.gif

Even with the finals and papers, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat instead of being in the "real world." Not that I don't enjoy my job...it's an experience to say the least, but ohhh, back to the days of being able to occasionally sleep in and hang out with people your age all the time. You'll miss it when it's gone!

FuzzieAlum 03-19-2002 06:54 PM

I would love to be back in school (grad school this time around), but I'll tell you, finals are one thing I DO NOT miss!

nucutiepie 03-19-2002 07:05 PM

I'm on the quarter system too and I am so stressed and tired. All I have left is one paper and one final though...

Here I cover as much material in eight weeks as I would in an entire year in HS!

You got that right, Tom. :)

Just out of curiousity, how many classes/credits do you usually take in a quarter? I read on the net about a college in Iowa where you only take 1 class at a time and it lasts 3 weeks...that would be good if you liked the class, but nowhere to get away if it sucked!!

TriDeltaGal 03-20-2002 04:17 AM

33girl,
The quarter system here at UCLA anfd the UC system is in ten week intervals. The minimum amount of units you can take a quarter and still be considered a full time student is 12 and I think that that the maximum without special permission is 19. 12 units is usually 3 classes. Hope that answers your question and now back to studying for my two History finals tomorrow. YIKES!

Maybe so, but at least you're getting PAID!!! You don't get a real salary for doing your homework or for studying for finals. Actually, you don't get any salary for that. A student might be able to afford time for a part-time job, but damn near every cent goes to paying for books, parking, food, etc. Sorry you hate your job, but I'd rather be in your place than my own!

Update:
TriDeltaGal is offically done with Winter Quarter finals. I completed four in-class essays for two classes and two take homes essays all on 8 hours of sleep in THREE DAYS! I'm quite delirious from sleep deprivation right now, but my Dad is coming to pick me up right now (no car on campus) and I'm going to take a bath and fall asleep for several days! I went through all that studying and I feel like I still failed them. Let's hope I didn't, I want to go to the DDD social events next quarter!

SAEactive, I totally hear you on the job thing. I tell my Mom that all the time when she tells me I'm miss college later.

I'm right here with you, pinkangel. Take solace in the fact that someone else will be suffering through citations and editing still at 5 AM. Good luck!

TriDeltaGal 03-22-2002 04:26 AM

I hope your papers went okay! I am so happy to be home, I slept in until 1:00 this afternoon. I was beat from all that hard core studying! And to think, we still have to do this one more time thing year. I hate the quarter system! Good Luck and Have a Wonderful Spring Break everyone!
