Love in Greek-land
I wanted to comment on dating Greeks, but I left that last string was far to long to sift through, so I am starting my own!
Throughout my 4 years in college I have dated: Lambda Chi, Kappa Sig, Theta Chi, Sigma Chi and Sigma Nu and they all have been fairly great guys...I dated My Kappa Sigma boyfriend for three years, 2 years when we were both non-Greeks. We both changed, but it was more of a growth process. He became and outgoing leader within his house, along with myself in Theta. I can see the progress from high school and his evolution in college with the help of his brothers. My current boyfriend of a year and a half, a Sigma Chi is fabulous. He is a bit cocky and sure of himself, but that's what I was attracted to. I give him a hard time about how proud and elitist he is, but he loves it! I look for in a guy: 1) Intelligence 2) Chivalry 3) A Sense of humor 4) A Great, outgoing personality 5) Athleticism Believe it or not, this usually leads me to fraternity guys; these qualities lead me to Jason. He understands why my sisters mean so much to me, because he has an incredible bond with his brothers. I comment and compliment him often about how much I admire the strength of their brotherhood. I spent almost everyday with one of my sisters, only another Greek can fully understand. I love my boyfriend for who he is, and part of who he is is being a Sigma Chi |
I know what you mean! I've dated some independents and some Greeks, but my current girlfriend, a Sigma Kappa, is the most wonderful person I've ever met!!! One of the things I love the most is that we both have a trust and understanding with each other of what it means to be Greek and what kind of a bond exists between members. Neither of us get on each other's case about spending time with our Brothers/Sisters and we completely trust each other when it comes to events with other Greek organizations. Since we both understand the meaning of the word commitment and the strength of the bond, it's been easier to develop that kind of relationship between us as well.

Jason understand when I have to be away for events, and he leaves it at that. I say I have to go somewhere, and he knows by the tone of my voice its for my house. He was there for me right after initiation, all tired and icky looking, and was the first to congratulate me. He has been there through the tough times, and shared all the great moments with me. We actually hooked up his good friend in Sigma Chi with my close friend in Theta, now the 4 of us hang out together, it's fabulous!
I am looking forward to many more years together, and looking for that lavalier! =) I hear it's coming soon...we shall see. |
I have dated Sig Ep, Farmhouse, Lambda Chi and Kappa Sig. It is always interesting, though, because on my campus there is so much competition that all the guys I have dated have made fun of the previous guy's fraternity. I do love that they know how much AGD means to me and when I say "Sorry, it is rush, I cannot see you for a week" they say "I will see you when it is done." That helps!

I have dated guys from SAE, Sig Ep, and Sigma Chi. But, the only guy to truly win me over is my current boyfriend who is a Kappa Sig. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif (I'm getting ready for everyone to gag from that comment http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif )

i've only had one serious relationship (which ended last month, oh well) which was with a Sammy, but i've gone out with a TKE and a SigEp (he never fails to crack me up), and actually, 2 other Sammies (just can't stay away from them I guess! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif). The latter ones were just fun dating around and they were all good guys, and im still friends with all of them... but of course, i cherished and loved (i still do) my ex the most....*sigh* I still have his lavalier and some Sammys stuff Theta, you rightfully said all that I wanted to already but the understanding the other person's Greek obligations n stuff =)...
and it's also funny how all the things i look for lead me to a fraternity man...niceness, sense of humor, good conversationalist, likes to have fun, understanding, looks (well it's not required, but it's an added bonus, and it just all happened that all the guys i've dated were hot, haha), and of course, can get along with my brothers n sisters (real important for attending functions w/ me!)....greek love is really like no other! |
I've dated Chi Phi, KA, Sigma Nu, Sig Ep, Phi Psi-- but the two most important realtionships I've had have been with GDI's. One from a school who's greek life was not big and one from my school who just had no interest in it.
And the thing is, as an alum, I really hope the person I end up with is a greek alum too. Non-greeks just don't seem to understand why I want to be involved with my alum group and with the local chapters ten years out of college. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Amy |
Just dropping a line to let everyone out there know that relationships between Greeks go the long haul EVERY day! I met a Sig Ep at a pledge mixer way back in 1995, and little did I know then that we'd be celebrating our first wedding anniversary this August! I'm grateful to Alpha Gamma Delta for MANY things--but most of all, I'm grateful to AGD for leading me to my best friend and the love of my life! (Feel free to gag now. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif)

That's a great story, Greeklawgirl!

I met my sweetie (of 3 1/2 years) during my second event as a rush. Art was in Kappa Sigma (which was trying to colonize on campus...they later folded) and we had a cosmic bowling event with them. We met that night and exchanged numbers....after that it's all history! He was my date to the Alpha Gam ball (which our sorority had been invited to as guests) a month after meeting....and now we're planning our wedding! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
I'm so greatful to my sorority for "introducing" me to my honey....although he's not a Greek now, he was so he understands when I say that I'm busy with sister events....or when I called them frequently from the States every time there was a sister event!!! Vera |
My boyfriend of a year and a half is a brother of Pi Kappa Phi. First of all, if it wasn't for my sorority sisters, I never would have met him. But it's nice dating another Greek because we both bounce ideas off each other, discuss ways to improve the chapters, etc. I love his fraternity brothers, so it's extra fun when we mix with them (as opposed to mixing with another fraternity where I hardly know any of the guys). He also understands that once Rush or some event starts, he won't be seeing a whole lot of me until all the busy-ness is over. And it works the other way, too. I am really looking forward to being lavaliered soon (I hope!), and I think that means a lot more to a sorority girl than an independent. Most sororities have a special ceremony when a sister gets lavaliered. What does an independent do? Go home and show her roommate? Also, ZTA has a special wedding tradition that probably wouldn't mean a whole lot to a guy who wasn't Greek.

Great topic! My girlfriend is a KKG and it's cool that she's Greek, because she understands the bond I have with my brothers and vice-versa.

Greek guys are great. I have dated a Pi Kappa Phi, Delta Chi, and am currently head over heels for a Lambda Chi. We met at an AXiD mixer... I was dancing on the dance floor and reached out to grab this really cute guy (pretty brave huh?) and we've been together every since. 10 months now and within the next year and a half we hope to be planning a wedding. It was fate, we are always together but somehow we are very independant of each other. He understands all about my soroities expectations and I for him. P.S. Besides between both of our GLOs we always have a party to go to. There is never a dull moment.

I have made some of the greatest friendships with greek women. I've never dated one but I did go take a few to my formals and I went to a XO and Phi Mu formal. I've only had two relationships and they werent greek. I will say that I would prefer my future princess to be greek. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I'd have to agree with amycat412. Yeah, thats my dream http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif As cheesy as that sounds.
