Step Off Competition on 106 & Park
National Greek Network, Inc. and Greekfest.com proudly support a televised Step Off competition on BET's 106 & Park.
The "Step Off" will be a step competition spanning over a two-week period. The "Step Off" will be a competition between the "Divine Nine" Historically Black Greek Fraternal Organizations in the National Pan-Hellenic Council. This event presents an opportunity for all organizations to come together as a united force and inform the young viewers about the positivity associated with being a member of a lifelong historically black fraternal organization. The purpose of the "Step Off" is to promote awareness about historically black organizations to the black youth and to also celebrate the art of stepping. Each organization will have 1 minute to perform on stage. There will be no music used during the performances. Traditional Stepping and Vocals only. Props may be used. Round 1 will be voted on Bet.com by our viewers. The Finals round will be voted on Apollo style by our audience members. I have other comments but I will wait to share. |
I love stepshows! But you will never see me in one :D
This kind of reminds me of that show that used to come on TV, Stomp...I would be glued to that TV! One minute!? That's only enough time to do one step. Come on, I want a show! Can I get three minutes also? |

EEEEEEW!!! That's SO Wack!!!
BET wins the "Wack Award" also!!!!
1.) 1 Minute for the competition??!! WTH?? 2.) No Music??!! And the competition is on 106th&Park ...How ironic... 3.) The way they grouped the competitions together REAKS!!! Instead of the way they have it, they should have all the Fraternities compete against each other and all the Sororities compete against each other (that is, if they HAVE TO have a competition in the fist place, which I don't reall think is necesary anyway)... |
Back in Spring 1997 (what a good year:D), Video Soul had a Greek Night with all of the Divine 9 sitting on the couch for a segment giving information about their organization. During the show, they showed on the screen, founding info as well as famous members. Anyway at the end and the halfway mark, they had 2 orgs step -- AKAs were the sorority but cannot recall the fraternity. That was more informational but since I was a NEO -- I was geeked as hell watching it with my sands and taping it.:o But some thieving son of a guns stole it:mad:
Now on to this 106&Park Step Off: 1. If they are only having 2 orgs step for the hour and a half show, why not allow them 3-5 minutes to step, just replace 2 videos (it's okay -- it won't hurt) or replace the guests who will be on that night. That makes sense right? Because IMO, stepping for ONE MINUTE is http://www.louisville.edu/~ejbrow01/bsflag.gif. I am not a stepmaster or anything like that by no means but stepping for one minute hardly makes it WORTH coming on. 2. BET would do good to talk to the organizations' chapters about what they do throughout the year in terms of service, academics, and uplifting promoting BROTHERHOOD or SISTERHOOD. 3. BET's ratings will push through the roof for these air dates, anyway, because we want to see what our orgs do in terms of a ONE MINUTE STEP http://www.louisville.edu/~ejbrow01/bsflag.gif, which chapter out of the hundreds of chapters will be chosen to represent our respective orgs, and of course, who wins. 4. The pairings are far too predictable. |
where are the teams from. what can you do in one minute? an intro. this should be interesting.

TTT
Just bringing it back to the top, and hoping that the stepteams get more than ONE minute to step. Hope every one watches tonight.
OO-OOP! :) |

VOTE for Winners @ http://www.bet.com |
I watched the step off between the Sigmas and the Iotas and I definitely believe the Sigmas represented! (Not saying that the Iotas didn't BUT I liked Phi Beta Sigma's performance better.) I'm looking forward to seeing Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Kappa Alpha compete as well as Zeta Phi Beta against Sigma Gamma Rho. Good luck! ;)

And a bit of plugging here :) : I know the writer of the web soap opera "As The Sands Burn", and I just want to give that link www.bet.com/community Have a nice day! |
I saw it too
I was home today during lunch and was able to catch their Step Competition. Yall I was hollering. I saw the Iota vs. Phi Beta Sigma routine. First, no disrespect but why did Iota pick a dude that could not speak!!! He was stumbling over their history highlights and then couldn't even get the web address out his mouth!
The Sigmas had a very eloquent brother representing. Of course I think they did way better than Iota even without the "gimmick". :D |
I think the Sigmas did a good job and the Iotas did a great job also.
I cannot wait for the sororities. |
