Informal Recruitment Question

I will try to not word this super confusing, so here it goes.

1. If a sorority is under their house total, can they choose to NOT participate in informal recruitment if they don't want to?

2. And lets say they are under, but aren't participating, could they still invite someone to be in their sorority?

3. If 1 and 2 end up being a 'YES' answer, would this only happen if they had some friends in that house who wanted them to be in that sorority, or could they look at names of girls participating in informal recruitment and ask them themselves?

Sorry for all those questions, and any reply is welcomed and would help!!!

Yes, yes, and they can have informal recruitment in whichever way they want.

Thank you for replying so fast! I actually have another question. Is there any way to find out about houses who are under total, but not participating? Other than I guess just knowing someone from that chapter.

No, if they were going to advertise it they would just go ahead and make the parties official. There are scenarios where a chapter being under total would be a huge embarrassment so they would NOT want to broadcast it. At others it is totally normal to bid from one to many during informal rush. The level of secrecy depends to a great extent on campus culture.

Also, if a chapter is only a few members under total, having big COB parties that anyone can attend is a giant waste of the chapter's time and the PNMs' time.

Agreed. An NPC chapter once held COB with three progressive parties (including a lovely Pref Ceremony) then did not bid any of those dozen or more young women. One rushee got her 'revenge' by writing about the sad experience in the campus newspaper, not using the sorority's name but instead naming the uncommon flower offered by the chapter and taken home by each preferred rushee. Big waste of time for rushees, but I wonder if the NPC chapter felt Practice in Rush makes Perfect.
