WTC beacons of light

wow-

even on long island, i can see the new memorial lights from my house.

i went down by the ocean where it is darker and the view is just amazing. there were dozens of people there looking and remembering also. i'm going to brooklyn this weekend to get a better look.

this is one of the nicest things that i think they could have done. they are respectful and tactful. and visually stunning. you have to see how high in the air they go! mind you, i'm 30 miles east AND there are regular lights EVERYWHERE...we normally can't even see stars well!

so all of you, what are your thoughts? for those of you who live in areas that are far from NY, how much have you heard about the memorial and what do you think.

i am so proud to be a new yorker!!

I saw them on the news - I hope I can make it down to NYC while they're still up.

I also saw them on the news and they were so beautiful. I heard they were going to do it for a month!

I don't know if you've heard it, but today while I was at work my radio station played this commemorative song about 9/11. It was really pretty. It was sort of like what they did with princess diana only they had people talking about the 9/11 incident. I'll have to try and see if I can find a picture of the lights your talking about on the internet.

A few of my chapter sisters are up in NYC for spring break. They were at this tonight and were fairly close to the front. They all said it was awesome. The only negative thing they had to say was that their feet hurt from standing for more than 3 hours. But they all said it was worth it.

I saw the "Beams of Light" while I was working out tonight. I didn't get to catch the whole story but the picture on the tv looked awesome~what a neat way to remember such a terrible event!
ADPiSweetie,
Was the song played on the radio Alan Jackson's? I absolutely LOVE that song. The first time I heard it was when I was watching some Country Music Channel. My sister made me stay on the station to listen to the song. By the end I was in tears...
"Where were you when the world stopped turning?"

I love that song too Hootie. I remember the first time I heard it. I was boo-hooing like crazy. I haven't seen the lights everyone is talking about so if somebody finds a link please post it for me!!!!

I think it would be cool to see in person because it is only going to happen for a month, its history in the making.

When I saw the picture Hootie put in her post, it gave me the chills. So simple, yet such a moving tribute.

Very moving tribute. And they found 5 more FDNY today at the site.....God bless them all....

GreekLetterGirl 03-12-2002 05:54 PM

I agree with what everyone has said, that it really is such a simple statement, yet such a moving one, I have heard that they have begun to find more bodies, how horribel!!!

ADPiSweety 03-13-2002 12:03 AM

Thanx Hootie for the pic! Also while I was at work, a lady called in to the radio station and the DJ told her the name, Yep you were right, it was that Alan Jackson song! It was pretty, very moving~
