I attended the International Day of Service for the local chapter in my immediate area, and it was great.
The local chapter in my area hosted this event with 2 other alumnae chapters in the area, and they had entertainment and as well a booths set up for all kind of testing and much information given out about AIDS/HIV. |
Excellent
The IDOS in my area was a beautiful collective effort. Those women worked HARD. I couldn't participate the entire day because I had other obligations, but I got to most of the events.
There was a walk-a-thon to educate people about HIV/AIDS, a health fair (my cholesterol, glucose and BP are great! :D ), and two forums. I nearly froze to death in the walk-a-thon, but the hot cocoa afterward thawed me out! |
My Alumnae chapter sponsored several events for International Day of Awareness. I participated in a walk, delivering packets of information door-to-door, in freezing cold temperature with fast winds. I felt good about that. I also attended a forum titled "The Insidious Ways HIV/AIDS Infects Women: Men On The Down-Low." It was excellent.

Successful March 9th
Hello Sorors,
It is soo good to see other sorors post what their perspective chapters did for International Day of Service. Sorors here in Brooklyn Alumnae took to the streets from 11am to 1pm and disseminated information about HIV/AIDS and the impact that it is having within our communities, as well as condomns at various locations all around Brooklyn, such as Medgar Evers College, Long Island University, Grand Army Plaza Library/Prospect park, the East Flatbush, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Clinton-Hill neighborhoods. Then from 2pm-4:30pm, our Social Action Committee sponsored a free forum at SUNY Downstate Hospital, where we had various community groups and doctors do presentations, questionnaires, and skits about prevention and treament. We really had great success with this program and look forward to doing it again next year!! :D |
