Fund Raisers
Oki, car washes don't work well in the winter, we tried magazines and made a whopping $80. We're not really sure where to turn. What are some lucrative fund raisers that everyone else's chapters have used? We're doing our first formal/initiation this Saturday and the general fund is pretty weak at the moment. If anyone has some good ideas, please share!!

Fundraising
Hello brothers of Sigma Nu,
I am an Alpha Xi Delta (aka fuzzie) from Toledo I really don't have many fundraising Ideas. But one that we are looking into doing is an ALL Greek calendar. My school has currently 7 national sorority and somewhere like 12 or 13 Fraternities... (new ones just keep poping up every year) Well anyways we've asked each of these groups to submit a picture or picture collage... and we are making calendars and planners out of them through a company... we buy them for like 4 bucks each and sell them for ten... it's easy and a few brothers could get togehter and really plan this well and set up the layout. On a side note... Why can't you boys start a chpater at The University of Toledo... the Fuzzies here would love to have their brother fraternity! And we have an awesome greek community... it's ohio nothing better to do. With Xi love, Fuzzie |
That's an awsome idea. I'll pass that along to my fundraising chair. On your other item about Ohio, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a colony pop up there. They're recruiting for a colony right now at Ohio State University and another one right after that at Bowling Green Kentucky (which I understand is not more than a 6-7 hr drive).

FUZZIE, that is a great idea. One idea that we have found, thanks to the brothers at Sam Houston State, is working beer booths at concerts. If there is a concert venue near your school, go talk to them to see if you guys can sell beer for them. They comp. us 8 - 10% of beer sales, which can be a huge amt. The three concerts I worked, we made $2,000 per night. Not bad for 8-10 guys work. Look into it.
We also have a sorority here on campus that publishes a Hook-up Look-up, which is a greek phone directory. They compile all of the fraternity and sorority phone list and sell them for 3 or 4 dollars each. It seems to be popular, and they make some money off of it. They print it on color paper, which may cost up to 6$0.55 per phone book depending on the size of your greek system. It is a great idea. The sorority that does it here is Zeta Tau Alpha. Hope this is some good info. Good luck, and I look forward to hearing some new ideas. HT605 |
I don't know if this will help, but every year our freshman classes make a truck load by selling trash bags. I'm not sure what company they go through, but they always seem to bring in a lot of revenue.
Another idea that our freshman use is cleaning up the sports arena after games, concerts and other events. That gives them about a grand for only a few hours work. Just some ideas. Hope maybe they come in handy. |
During football season we make tons by cleaning up the stadium after games. Our school is lots smaller than KSU and we have a tiny stadium so it's not nearly as lucrative. But it's our best fund raiser so far.
Trash bags? It sounds like a very original idea -- but how do you market them, etc? LHT Kevin MT 5 University of Central Oklahoma |
My pledge class did not sell trash bags....but I think most of the freshman just sold them to family friends and relatives. A lot of them even bought extras and then went out into the surrounding neighborhoods door to door. Supposedly they had a pretty good response.
One of the things my pledge class did was this credit card program...however I dont recommend it. It entailed us going out and getting people to sign up for the card...then giving them a free gift like a phone card. But for all of our efforts, I don't think it generated much profit. My chapter is currently looking into a fund raiser with our alumni. We recently replaced our entire dining room chair set and we are trying to come up with a way to sell/auction the old chairs to our alumni. Like they would donate the money and we would give them a chair with a plaque on it or have a plaque put on one of the new chairs. I guess this probably wouldnt apply to you though. If I come up with anything else I will let you know. |
