new nickname??

Hello sisters! I was talking with a couple girls from my chapter and we were thinking about starting/using a new nickname for ourselves: Sigma's. We think it's classy and there aren't any other sororities that have a sigma, so we wouldn't get confused with others. We thought about Snakey K's and Sig Kap's which we've used in the past, but I really liked how this sounds.. I mean if Kappa Kappa Gamma can be Kappa's, Kappa Alpha Theta be Theta's, why can't Sigma Kappa's be Sigma's? What do you guys think?

I think that Tri-Sigma often uses Sigma as their nickname...

If Tri Sigma is not on your campus, I say go for it! :)

We don't have tri sigma's and as far as I know, until all chapters are at cap. we will not have another national Org. invited onto campus, so it looks like we are safe.

Nick name

At the University of Tennessee they call us Sigmas or Sexy Sigmas so I don't see why you can't use it too. I have heard that tri-Sigma uses that nickname too, but since they aren't on our campus we just went for it! :)

Here's the update: We decided not to go with Sigma's just because of Tri-Sigma's and the chance that they might come to campus in future years. We are using Snakey K's because we have heard that nationally, that is one of the more popular ways we are known, and it is already informally used by people who know us on this campus. We like the way it sounds, and it get's people interested in hearing more about us when they hear us refered to as Snakey K's.

SLAM,
Melissa

Couldn't Snakey K's have a negative conotation? Just a thought!

Actually, people have really taken to it so far, but we'll know more when the fall semester starts. It's always been something we've been called, and never in a negative way at all.

I believe tri-sigs are known for their nickname "sigmas" and i actually think it's more negative when people call us, "snakes" or "snakey K's," but as for Sig Kaps, i think its cute and easy to not get it mixed up with other sororities.

sigma love,

I know it's been a while for this thread, but I just thought I would let you all know. This week (work week) we had Snakey K's on our work week shirts and when we went to the Pan Ice cream social, we got so many compliments on them. So many people came up to us wanting to know what it meant and when we told them that it was our nickname they loved it! I think that we picked a good one.
