Formal ideas/Favors
I was just wondering if anyone had some ideas on original formal favors! Our chapter has used beer mugs, pub glasses, etc.. you know the typical glass favors. This semester I was debating on ordering beach towels, pitchers, brandy glasses, candy jars or teddy bears. what do other chapters use for formal favors? I would love a new idea! Also, where is a good place to get them?
Also, where does everyone have their formals and what are they like? We usually get a banquet room in a hotel and then stay in that hotel for a night. Some chapters have award ceremonies, slide shows etc.. I want to make this formal awesome, so let's share some ideas!! |
We did some really cute beach towels for a chapter here. They were embroidered and turned out really well. Another thing that's popular here is portable/collapsable coolers that hold a 6 pack of cans. Those are relatively inexpensive. The main thing is how quickly you need them and what quantity you need.
Oh, and my favorite formal was held on a riverboat. It was in the spring and the weather was beautiful. We also held one in an antebellum house...that was fun, too. Good luck! |
I've been begging our social to get beach towels or can koozies since I've been here...either would be a good favor that would get a lot of use, and if girls in your chapter buy their dates favors too, then it's something the guys can use as well.

Boxer shorts, squeeze bottles, keychains maybe...the towels sound like a great idea too. Let's face it, you always need towels.

A nice one is a photo album with the event name and your crest or letters on the cover.

What about candles?

You want something that people will use... champagne glasses tend to end up on display in the breakfront, but highballs, pint glasses, and the like get used. I still use the pint glasses from one of my semiformals as water glasses... but the champagne glasses from senior formal sit in the breakfront and gather dust. :)
Or you can do keychains. My local did a date party once called "The Heart of a Treasure" - sisters and their dates got keys on a keychain, and you had to find the person whose key matched yours - he was your date. The keychains were the favors. A great-aunt and -uncle of mine had a 50th anniversary celebration when I was little - their favors were decks of playing cards. Don't know where they got them done, but it's an original idea. :) |
aephi alum makes a valid point, I guess I never thought about how we use the actual favors and all. My wine glasses and champagne glasses do sit and collect dust. But i do always tend to use candles and candy jars picture frames and Photo Books. So those are all the favors I use and like :D
Hope that helps DGP~Honey~ |
A really cool idea I've heard is to get something like a beer pitcher, big mug/glass, and have everyone in the fraternity/sorority's names printed on it. It's something that can be used, plus you have everyone's name down on it.
