GreekSings?
We just had our annual Greek Sing here at U of L and since I am going to be planning it for next year, I was wonder if any of you had any ideas for shows we can do. What sort of things have you won with in the past? We just did 'Diva's of the 80's' and want to do something else fun. What do you think?

HEY!
This year we are doing Grease. Things that have been successful in the past are beatle's, Annie and other cute and fun things! :) I hope these suggestions work! GOOD LUCK!!! Sarah |
yea I would say some sort of musical is cool, like Grease or even hairspray. But if you want something newest, all though latelty it seems to be getting played alot the Lady Marmalade song might actually be a cute idea.
How did you all do this yr? and good luck next yr DGP~Honey~ |

hmmm
Maybe I'm a little off, but could someone explain what Greek Sing is? I don't think we do it at my campus, but maybe we do and just call it something else...

Greek Sing (on my campus) is an annual event sponsored by Chi Omega and Kappa Alpha, where all the fraternities and sororities prepare a 5-minute song and dance type thing to perform and be judged on. There's also a banner contest, too. It's a really big deal here, and a lot of non-Greeks buy tickets and come watch, too. Everyone, even the performers, have to buy tickets, but all the money goes to the Make-a-Wish foundation so I don't mind paying.
Be careful, though...last year, TWO other sororities had the same cowgirl theme we did, and the very same songs. It was horrible. We didn't know, of course, because everyone keeps it a secret. This year, the people in charge decided to have all the participating groups turn in a paper a few weeks in advance stating their theme, so that there wouldn't be a repeat incident. Well...someone must have dropped the ball somewhere, because we were horrified to find out that another sorority was doing our Vegas theme! Well, maybe not horrified, exactly, but we were surprised and very PO'd. Groups who have the same theme never win, so we were pretty upset after all the work we'd put into it. But we did a good job and showed them up, so I'm still proud. :) |
Spring Sing is the traditional finale to our Greek Week at the University of Central Oklahoma. They just started pairing up sororities with fraternities because we never took it seriously:rolleyes:
We're paired up this time with the Sigma Kappas and unfortunately I can't say any more. I'll let ya'll know WHEN we win ;) |
spring sing ideas
In the past, we've portrayed different people, using relevant music, and try tie in a common theme. i.e. last year:
theme: sports one of the people: Babe Ruth corresponding song: "I Got You Babe" by Sunny and Cher I hope that helps. http://farmhouse.org/images/fh-small.jpg |
OK!
Thanks for clarifying! We have SuperDance that goes along with Greek Week and we're paired with a few frats and sororities, not just IFC and NPC, we're paired with all the Greek organizations on campus. It's tons of fun and we do a dance/lip sync. We won SuperDance last year, came in second this year :( but it was still a good showing for us!

Mennonite school?
|
At our school, we have a Mr. & Ms. MSU, a contest that is held during Greek Week. It's sort of a pageant, but not so much focused on beauty, and just a fun time all around. There is one segment where we have a song picked out and we perform it and that factors in to part of the final score.
For two years in a row, we finished second, but this year we couldn't find anybody with the time to dedicate to it! Hopefully this next coming year we will return to our previous domination :) |
At MTSU, it's called All-Sing. It's open to all fraternities and sororities....local, NPHC, etc. We have to sing and dance for 8 minutes...only one instrument is allowed. (ususally the piano). Anyways, we were the only sorority to win All-Sing two years in a row; if we had won last year, we would have retired it :( (although KD did REALLY REALLY good...they deserved to win, so no hard feelings :) ) Next to homecoming, it's the biggest comeptition in the greek community. We generally stick to a Disney theme; Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, etc etc. Well, We won this year! 1st place in the female division and 1st place overall...I don't think I've screamed so loud! Great fun had by all!
Blaire So proud to be a DELTA ZEE! No matter the letter, greeks do it better! |
greek sing on our campus is HUGE! It comes at the end of Greek week, which is a week long PHC/IFC sponsered event. Lots of sports and dirty competition... but it is all in fun. Proceeds from a fundraiser we do goes to our Children's Center on campus.
Anyway, i digress. Greek Sing on our campus is a big song and dance competition. Sororities and fraternities pick a theme, chose songs to go with those themes, and then change the lyrics to make one song be about fraternities, one about sororities, one about your GLO, and one about greek life in general. (At least that is how Chi Delts do it.) It's about a 10 minute long presentation with costumes, backdrops, props... the whole nine yards. We did a "Rescue" theme. We had lifeguardes singing to the Baywatch theme, cops, firefighters and nurses/doctors. Unfortunatly, I don't think our judges know the difference between "Greek Dance", which doesn't exist, and "Greek Sing." Sororities usually win if they have kick ass dance moves alone... it doesn't seem to matter that they don't sing half the time. Sorry I am bitter over last year. :( Anyone have any other theme ideas? I have some: Welcome to the Jungle Harley Davidson "Crazy" Insane theme Movies 80s movies Construction I know of lots... if you need help thinking of something... let me know! |
