A Fee for these Services?

Here's what happened:
I went to a site where I normally frequent, however, I wasn't a registered member. Okay, I go to register and the pop-up says something about I can register, BUT within a few days, I'll have to pay for 30 days to go to the site for like $29.95 a month. WTH?

Would you be willing to pay to got to a "regular" forum like GC and pay to post?

I don't think I would. I guess my internet junkie days are really winding down.

THE NERVE! :o LMAO

I guess this is the trend?

I like Greekcaht alot and have been postinf for awhile. I don't think, I know I wouldn't be willing to pay $29.95 a month to come on this site. I know we are smart enough here at Greekchat, to take the party over somewhere else.

Well...

...the advertising based business model that many internet sites relied on for their "bread and butter" is no longer viable. For this reason, a large number of internet sites are going to fee based business models. For example Yahoo Geocities is charging for FTP access, a popular "tech" site, slashdot.org, is charging users for ad-free viewing of their site, and the list goes on. Expect to see many popular sites going to this type of business model to keep their heads above the water. :( I'm waiting for Blackplanet to go completely fee-based. With the amount of advertising that is plastered all over the site, I REALLY wonder how strapped for cash the owners (Community Connect ) are.

I think BP with all of its pop up ads and entrance advertisements, etc. is going that way as far as paying to use it and when they do -- Adios BP!

I love GC and I really enjoy the convos on here but pay to talk to y'all -- nope sorry. **JOHN, we love GC like a play cousin but my oh my, I would have to bounce.** I might have crackhead like twitches for a few days but sooner or later, I might shake it off.

I have noticed this as well. I went to send a friend an e-card and found all the sites I usually use require you to pay! I was like WTF??? When did this happen? If I am going to have to pay for it- Hallmark here I come. I send e-cards as pick me ups. If I really care or it is important I will send a real card. This is one sure fire way to cut down on my internet use.

Yeah I was never the BIGGEST patron of blue Mountain Arts but they were one of the first. Not only that but they won't even let you surf unless you are a member -- how elitist is that.

I use YahooGreetings as well as www.hollah.com and www.beatgreets.com. Like you Kimmie, I will send someone an e-card with the Quick and the Fast but for them to start charging those days are dwindling fast.

I went to a site once and was told there was a fee. I don't even remember the site name anymore - that's how interested I was in paying a fee.

If GC started charging - I'm sorry, I'm a broke sista on a budget - I'd have to "make like Tigger". We'd get up --- some of you have my email address. Sure would miss John, though... :p

I love GC a whole, whole lot. But, I wouldn't pay for it. The internet is expensive enough already. I already pay AOL $23 a month just for service. Plus, I was looking into high-speed internet access via dsl but that's another thrity dollars a month. I just can't afford that.

I pray that GC does not become a pay site because I don't know what I would do with all of my free time. And, nobody would understand me when I start speaking in How Comes.

just think...

if they start charging us for sites, I can always give you my website and we exchange notes on my guestbook.

For real, I think I'm online for business purposes now, I will be for real once I have to pay for some of the other sites I frequent... could you imagine amazon charging a fee?

ROTFLMPGBO!

Girl, I got it so bad, I THINK in HC format! :D

Speaking of prices... How about 49.95 for Road Runner? I used to get a little 20.00 discount for a year, but they did away with the promo. And when I inquired about cancelling, they didn't seem to care. Shoot....
