I Have A Paddle!!!

Today my little was initiated, so I got a paddle! It is so cute! She did an awesome job. My little is the best! :)

Cool!

So SATX*APhi, I think I am old Phi, because the bigs used to give paddles to the littles. Has your chapter always done it that way? Just curious. It is interesting to see how different chapters operate.

And, by the way, congrats! I know how excited I was when I got my paddle (of course from my Big Sis, as we did it then). :)

Jen,

Our chapter is almost 5 yrs old, so I believe that my chapter has always had littles give their bigs paddles on initation day. I am pretty sure of it.

We didn't do paddles, we did Ivy Leaves made of wood but the littles gave them to the bigs before initiation. I have two ivy leaves decorated by two of my three little sisters and I still give my other little sis grief over the fact that she never made one for me.

I took my first little fall of my sophomore year and my second spring quarter of my sophomore year. I devoted a lot of time to calling them both, taking them for yogurt, meeting them for lunch or just hanging out with them. I wound up living with each of them in my junior year. Then my senior year we pledged a junior who was a legacy and needed a lot of attention. My senior class was REALLY small and I was approached b/c they wanted someone who was still involved in the chapter and had friends in common. I am so happy I agreed to take a third little sis my senior year. Jane, my third little is one of my dearest friends and she made my senior year very special.

I think it is importnat to only take as many littles as you have time and attention for. Big/little relationship building is a key aspect of keeping our members happy and involved.

Thanks so much!! I became a big a semester after i joined! My big thought that I might have rushed it, but my first lil and I have an extremly close bond. Now into my junior year, i have my second lil, and I know me and her are going to be just as close. My family has grown so much this past year, I know that after I graduate there will be a few grand-lil's that I will have to visit!!
