What about the 60's and 70's music
ok so we have the glorious 80's music
what are some good songs from the 60's and 70's you know good ol' rock 'n' roll |
Anything by The Beatles. The Doors, The Who, The Guess Who, CCR, Queen, Floyd, Zepplin, Cream, Yardbirds, The Birds, The Eagles, Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, The Beach Boys, Santana, The Mamas and the Papas, the Stones... and the list goes on and on
|
Here's my the list:
"All the leaves are brown" "chodachrome" "brown eyed girl" |
You shouldn't even get me started on this. I worked part of my way through college in the 60's as a radio disk jockey "playing the hits."
To the list above, I would add Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, all of the "trumpet bands" (Chicago, BS&T, The Buckinghams, etc.), plus the Righteous Brothers, Simon and Garfunkle and The Association. I think that "Bridge Over Troubled Waters," is arguably one of the best produced recordings of all time. On another BB we were discussing the best voices in rock history. I like Linda Ronstadt, and Gary Puckett. And who can overlook Elvis -- whether you like his music or not? I'm sure I'll think of more later. BTW, I assume by "All the Leaves are Brown," you mean "California Dreamin'" |
I had to edit this to say this isn't really rock-n-roll list! I just got so darn excited!
**Bob Segar and the Silver Bullet Band GARY PUCKETT-YOUNG GIRL!!! I still have the album. I don't think I could make a list. LINDA-In a class of her own! The Eagles are one of my ALL time favorites, but Dan Fogelberge and Jackson Brown are terrific. Everyone listed is a winner. May I add for fun- The Temptatons Jan & Dean Leslie Gore Neil Diamond Dusty Springfield I clean house to the Four Seasons! Singles- House of the Rising Sun Nights in White Satin To DeltAlum-I wanted to say if you stole your wife away from the "boy in the band" that says SOOOO MUCH! WOOO HOOO! OH MY GOSH! ELTON JOHN! YOUR SONG |
And from yet another of the oldies but goodies on GC:
Cat Stevens Elton John James Taylor Gordon Lightfoot John Denver :D |
My favorites:
The Beatles (all time greatest band EVER, no arguments on this!) Queen The Doors Elton John Creedence Clearwater Revival Mamas & Papas Beach Boys Four Tops Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons Barry Manilow (laugh and die) Neil Diamond Tom Jones Olivia Newton John Wings Temptations John Denver Kiss Alice Cooper Bread Todd Rundgren Just to name a few!!!!!;) |
Maybe I missed this but no one put:
Janis Joplin Gloria Gaynor |

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that music videos killed good music?

ktsnake For the most part I have to agree, there are always exceptions. Now it seems like it's all about the production or the physical appearance of the performers. Studio sound enhancement was a major culprit as well. When the recording sounds great and yet the live peformance stinks, you know the "talent" is questionable to say the least. One thing I miss about the pre-CD days is the artwork on the album covers. |
I don't know if videos killed good music, but the performers certainly are prettier or at least have a unique look.
|
Ask yourself this though -- Would performers like the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Pink Floyd even have a snowballs chance in hell of making it big today?
-- I think not. Videos and MTV have made the "look" more important than the music. Being a musician myself I see my type treated like scum under the feet of the music industry. We are hired hands, not individuals. We are not valued for our ability to interpret, jam, etc (with notable exceptions like Phish of Dave Matthews Band people)... All that matters with most popular type music is that we can read the music and not screw up. This in my opinion is not so great... I hate to see where it's going. |
Interesting timing on this thread.
Our son who is a senior in high school just opened as Ren in "Footloose," their musical this year. It's fun to see all of these "90's" kids singing and dancing to the "old" rock stuff. Of course all three of my kids -- and a lot of their friends are very knowledgable about 60's and 70's music and really like it. |
