Sac
Hey guys,
I am not sure if anyone else holds the same opinion, but at the last regional conclave I left the legislation review fairly disappointed. Yes, the legislation drawn up about the name change was clearly wrong. What really got to me was the fact that the legislation for a dues increase was proposed by SAC. I understand the need for the dues increase, and to frank I am in favor of it. What I am not in favor of is having the Student Advisory Committee that allegedly represents us proposes information that clearly was not brought about by them. The Grand High Zeta should have been the ones who proposed the legislation. I had talked to some guys who work with national who agreed, but thought, “the legislation would be taken better if t was from our representatives.” We are all brothers just propose the legislation as if anyone else would, and believe that we will treat it the same because you are a brother. I would also like to reiterate what another GC member had said about out the lack of Representation. Appointed members are not representative, that is why the US Senate was changed to direct election rather that representative appointment. These are just my two cents. I am sorry if I stepped on any feet, but I felt it would be a good I idea to get the arguments out there. In ZAX, Joshua Stockstill Phi Psi 517 |
Per the Constitution, the SAC is NOT a representative of the undergraduate members. This confusion has been going on for some time. There might need to be some legislation that clarifies this. When you look at the Constitution definition for duties and responsibilities of SAC, you might have a different perception of where the legislation should or should not come from.
It is your chapter's delegate to the General Assembly who needs to understand all of the proposed legislation and understand where your chapter stands on the proposed changes. One thing to note, in SAC's defense...this is the first year in at least 25 years, that SAC had completed and was able to present proposed legislation at the Regional Leadership Conferences. The discussions that took place at these conferences will enable the SAC to modify the legislation and enable chapter members to have time to discuss the changes prior to the General Assembly.
