I'm not sure if guy do this, but if you're a girl and you are like me and my friends then I'm sure you do it too.

Do you keep people's name on your AIM buddy list and read their profiles or away messages? I do this to my ex (just to see if it says anything semi-good) but I heard there's a way they can tell if you went to their profile and read it and stuff. Is this true because I think I would die if he knew that I read it. Fill me in.

you are refering to a subprofile, that is the only way that they can tell to my knowledge

I'm pretty sure if you look at people's profiles they can't tell, but in order to get an away message you have to IM them right? Well I know when I undo my away message I get all the IM boxes that people IMed me and then it tells me who the last IMer was...So i think your cool on the profile part, but not the away message part.

yeah, i'd like to know what a subprofile is too! By the way, you can look at peoples away message without having to IM them. You just right click on their name in your buddy list and choose "get info." ;)
