Girly thread: clothing discussion

Ladies, I'm in a fashion rut!!

Work clothes are not an issue, but for "play time" I just feel so - tired of everything. I miss the casual mid-season tops that places like Brooks and Fashion Bug used to have. I also liked that you didn't have to tuck them in.

Any ideas? What's everyone liking?

I love retro style clothes. A big fav of mine is Stop Staring: www.stopstaringclothing.com. I also like Pin Up Girl Clothing. However, most of the time I'm in exercise clothes. Lol Our wedding anniversary is this weekend and want to wear something nice.

I just got this casual sweater from Nordstrom and I've been wearing it with skinny jeans and a tee - I recently took a trip to Maine and it was great for throwing on when it gets a little chilly at night.

I'm all about longer cardigans and skinny jeans - I have a couple Tory Burch oversized Boyfriend Simone cardigans that I can wear to work or casually. Other than that, I seem to live in cropped Nike stretch pants, flip flops, and tshirts on the weekends.

Everlane has the BEST tees and tops!!!

I also love Aritzia, but it's $$. Also Madewell and Club Monaco

I have to admit that I'm in a rut, too. It's like I'm still re-enacting The Preppy Handbook, only more comfy sizes!

Try ThredUp. It's an online consignment store with designer brands at a fraction of the price. I just got my first order from them and I <3 my new jeans ;)

Ooh! Thanks, Amanda! Just signed up.

Last Sat. for our wedding anniversary I wore the Stop Staring 'Bonnie' dress in maroon. :D

I checked out the site and it's great. My fashion is stuck after becoming a stay at home mom. Love the options.

I'll go past comfy sizes and state I'm in a rut and definitely plus sized!

Lisa, does it bother you having the lower hem in the back on your cardigan? I'm not a fan of the look on me but it seems that's ALL I'm finding for transitional and fall pieces.

No, not at all, the ones I wear are fairly light, so it's not a problem. You don't really sit on them since they kind of ride up a little when you sit down, if that makes any sense?

I love ThredUp!
I'm good with work clothes and lounge around/target run/active wear but its the in between that I have trouble with. I hate shorts, I am sick of skinny jeans and everytime I wear leggings I feel like my butt is sticking out even if I have a tunic on.
I had heard that boot cut jeans were making a come back this year. Fingers crossed!

If you are a larger size and busty, Talbots fits extremely well. One of the few brands I can buy great close outs that fit on-line. I stock up when their classic cashmere sweaters are on sale. I have also decided I am tired of being a larger size and now that I am working from home, have that 2 hour a day commute time back. Have just started rowing and could not find any work-out clothes that looked decent on a fat girl. After no luck at several stores, it was suggested I try Pennys. I can't remember the last time I was in a Pennys? I found an item at Pennys but couldn't find other similar items. A sales associate told me it was a return and I should try on-line. I found several reasonably fashionable/weight appropriate work out outfits and cute sports bras with support on-line. The fashion sense and quality also seems better than the items they stock in the store?

Not a fan of the boot cut jean. I've never figured out why people think they're flattering. But that's me. I think the same thing about yoga pants. I will never understand why people think they look good in them. Alas, moving on.

My eternal conundrum is shoes. I have princess feet so my shoes have to be comfortable. But how many pairs of loafers should one girl be allowed to own? Finding something not all the way flat, comfortable, and dare I request just a little bit on trend seems to be impossible.

This reminds me of a fundraiser I attended once (can't remember what they're called but they were kind of a thing a few years ago) where you brought your still stylish clothes, dresses, shoes, accessories, and however many you brought you got to take away. People generally brought a lot more than they took away so the "leftovers" became a donation to Goodwill. The one I attended (in Dubai) was kind of crazy. And I actually saw women CHEATING and taking items before the allotted go time, and basically shoplifting additional pieces. Seriously people? IT'S FOR CHARITY.

Checking out thredup now :)

Noooooooo....not Chico's. It's my "I can't even" place.

I am bored with my clothes, hopefully fall gets here soon and I can actually wear my back to school clothes. (This teacher buys back to school clothes.) Bought three really cute skirts at Old Navy and have been clearance shopping JCrew and Banana. I buy trendy pieces at lower end stores like Old Navy and H&M, them mix with nicer wardrobe pieces. I think I now own a cardigan sweater in every color since my classroom goes from hot to cold with no warning.
