TKE's coming back to Clarion?
Hi! Im a Phi Sigma Sigma from Clarion U of PA, and I had noticed something in our newspaper about TKE's coming back to Clarion, and my friends neighbors had signs up about it... what do you guys know about this?

You are kidding, right?? Are you sure it's not a bunch of brothers who flunked out coming back to school? :) Nothing against TKE, but I thought Clarion was barely supporting the fraternities it has now.

I am not sure if they are coming back but TKE IHQ is known for starting or restarting chapters where they are not wanted by the school because its not required for us to have school permission to be there even though its nice to have.

Whatever the reason - hope the rumor is true and best of luck in getting the charter back there!

Where not wanted?
Quote:
It has NEVER been the policy of TKE to go on a campus where we simply replaced an existing fraternity or where we were not wanted. We have gone on where the IFC or school balked but the group was strong and survived anyway--a different story... I have been active in TKE in expansion since 1956, and I can assure you we have turned down many a group who wanted us and ended up going with another 'cause they did not qualify for colony status--generally due to size. BUT today's system is indeed different...it is hard to remain quiet when a campus with 4,000 unaffiliated men is ignored and the IFC or Director of Greek Activities says "no" due to some few houses being small. They are small because they are wimps, so, grow or move aside...how can you argue with this? All of us want to present a positive image. Fraternity is for Life. Free enterprise and open rush are two things we all ought to have and none of this petty crap. We all love our chapters and if we don't grow and/or add, we die. I know of no rule, nationwide, about time limitations on returning to campus where an inactive chapter is...orphaned alumni are often happy to have a fresh start. But TKE does NOT knowingly go where not wanted and I resent the insinuation...as would all of you, too. Erik Conard---Denver |
The University of Tennesse is an an example of a clony we opened up where the school refuses to reconize us. I remember when Buckwheat drop by to help Zeta Nu like 3 or 4 years agao he said he was going to Tennesse to start the chapter even thought the school didn't want us. There is a thread with the article about University of Tennesse colony and how the school won't reconize useven 3 or 4 years after it was first started. I am sure there are schools we don't want to start chapters at. I am not meaning anything bad by it but I guess if there is big support to start a TKE chapter at a school by alumni or a local wanting to go TKE maybe TKE IHQ is willing to consider starting a chapter even if the school doesn't or hasn't approved us yet. Obviously somebody wants us at the school we start a chapter at doesn't mean it has to be the school.
