AOPi chapter at UC Berkley

Does anyone know what this means? Did the chapter refuse to allow their house to be run by some sort of AOPi management company? I'm not really understanding the statement. http://www.alphaomicronpi.org/alpha-...l-organization

Just curious - how did you happen to come across this? Arkansas is a far distance from Berkeley.

Regardless, the statement is pretty clear as to what it means, including giving the AOII headquarters' explanation/background for the decision. As for what it means, I am copying a relevant paragraph here (complying with GC policy on citing but not copying entire documents):

Effective as of September 3, 2015, the current AOII Sigma Chapter house at 2311 Prospect Street will no longer be recognized as an AOII facility. After that date, no AOII activities will be permitted at the location. In addition, Sigma 1916 will no longer have permission to use or display the name “Alpha Omicron Pi,” the Greek letters “AOII,” or any other Fraternity trademarks or insignia, and the letters on the house will have to be removed. Although it will no longer be a recognized AOII facility, members may continue to live in the house per the terms of their housing agreements with Sigma 1916, Inc.

In plain English, the building will no longer be a recognized facility. I don't interpret it that the charter for the chapter has been pulled. This is an internal situation. We all have those situations in our organizations. I wish the AOII chapter at Cal Berkeley success in their upcoming recruitment and hope that there will be a resolution to this situation. That is a gorgeous, incredible building - I have driven past it multiple times over the years. The views of the City and the Golden Gate (on a clear day) and the Marin headlands are spectacular.

It's a very complicated issue that has been ongoing for 10 years. I'm sad that the disagreement had to involve the collegiate chapter which does not control the house. They will come to an agreement at some point but we in CA are completely supportive of our amazing Sigma chapter.
