It depends on what the woman likes.
Some prefer 3 dozen of roses and a candle-light dinner. Some just need a sincere smile and eye expression.

when you feel really down and out - and the other person makes you smile or laugh - thats love to me

then theres the whole process of making love... but i don't think i ned to further explain that one

As a girl, I think if you want to express love, you should start by e-mailing to get a better understanding of this person.
Then date the girl for about two/three times.
But please remember, never touch on the topic about her ex-boyfriend. What sort of sexual status they reached in their relationship.
Also, do not do things like "place chips on the table" approach:-
If you only date the girl once or twice, never tell the girl on the second date that you have to work till very late every nite.
Can only spare one weekend day a week with the girl. This will create an impression that you are looking for a low-maintenance girlfriend. Also, I believe that even the worst workaholic in the world, you would not work +19 hours a day EVERY SINGLE DAY. This will give the girl an impression that the other day of the weekend, you may be dating another girl. You are a two-timer
Your concern of other people around you is also a key determinant of how a girl should judge you. Whether you spend time with your family.

Look her straight in the eyes and tell her how much she really means to you, and that you love being with her every moment.
Forget the cards, the candy, gifts and flower. Words speak so much louder than you can imagine.

the candy, flowers, jewelry, etc. have no influence in showing my true affection, or love (though I've never been in true love).
Like I said in another thread, I'm all about the eyes. I think the best way possible for me would be to make that 'contact.' Looking into her eyes, the look that you don't really know until you both have it, then you know.

As for the flowers and candy and stuff like that, that's always helpful in making her feel good.

How about total honesty? Total trust? Giving someone the incredible security of knowing that your heart is with them at all times says more than a thousand empty promises.....

Not having to say you're sorry is nice, but for those of us living in the real world open, heartfelt apologies are great.

Time.....giving the gift of your time and your attention says a lot. Companionship is everything.

And then of course there's mind-blowing sex, but I guess that comes later!!!!!!:)
