BIG problem at work
okay so a week ago on v-day during work, this girl named Sarah told me that Cindy spit in Linda's coke when she opened it without Linda knowing. Linda is a good friend of mine while Sarah and Cindy arent really. So when i found this out i felt really bad but i wasnt able to tell Linda because i felt intimidated by the other two. I was working with Sarah and Linda was next door with Cindy. Anyway, i have felt really bad ever since then, and then today i told Linda what happened and she BLEW up! So now she told the coordinator of our building and the coordinator will probably tell the director of the school. I feel bad because i was the one that started this entire thing, and she might get fired, Cindy that is.
I feel like a tattletale but the reason i did it was because Linda is a really nice lady, and if i was in her place i would haven wanted someone to tell me about it too, sooner or later! I just feel i did the wrong thing, and shouldn't have said anything because i started this whole mess by saying what happened. Plus, Sarah, Cindy and this other girl Dawn are like so bad and always doing things they arent supposed to, but im also scared they'll gang up on me if they find out i told. Its pretty obvious i told because i think im the only one who knew besides them three. :( What have i done??? What would you guys have done?? |
I would have said whats up to all three of them. Because honestly, in this day and age the passing of bodily fluids even done in a joking manner is nothing to be taken lightly. Why the risk of a disease being passed on through spit is very minimum, I cant believe adults would act in such a manner. You did the right thing by saying something.

You did the right thing. Just play it off with the girls that you don't like and act normal. Even if they found out there is not to much they can do. Plus I am sure Linda has your back so talk to her about it.
|
I agree that you did the right thing. These people are adults, right?! What adult spits in someone's coke? I haven't heard of crap like that since I was in seventh grade. Give me a break. If she gets fired, it's her own damn fault for being such an idiot. BTW, you didn't start anything -- Cindy did, so don't feel bad.
As for the others, just keep your distance from them as best you can, and don't leave any food or drinks near them... ;) |
HOW DISGUSTING! You had no choice but to tell her. If you are dealing with people of that ilk on a daily basis, may I suggest you make sure they don't key your car, pour sugar in your gas tank, knife your tires or TP your apartment.
I'm really being serious. That kind of behavior represents a threat to anyone who crosses them. If strange things start to happen, you got a head start. BTW-get your own food/cokes to be on the safe side. |
I would have told immediately too - but I can fully understand why you felt intimidated. I'm just sorry you have to deal with that crap in the first place, BU!
You did the right thing. Of course those bitches are going to be pissed at you, but don't let them scare you. If they confront you, I would roll my eyes in their face and say "um..You think I'm immature for 'tattling'.well at least I don't need to spit in someone's drink just because I don't like them" and then walk off. Whatever you do, keep us posted. This kind of crap should not be happening in the workplace!! It's only bound to get worse if someone like you didn't speak up. |
Don't buy into the problem. It wasn't you that spit into the Linda's coke. Sometimes its better for the crisis surface so that MAYBE the problems can get aired and possibly things could improve. No matter what happens, it can't be as bad as what it was. You did OK, but I understand how you feel.

When I first read your post, I checked your profile to see your date of birth because I was certain that this kind of stupidity stopped in the seventh grade. If Cindy gets fired, it's her own damn fault for starting this in the first place. You did nothing wrong except maybe wait to tell Linda. If you hadn't told, this situation could have escalated to ex-lax in the hot chocolate or worse. I agree with what everyone wrote especially JAM. Watch your back and brace yourself for retaliation.

Ummm...these girls are convicts on a local work-study program, right? Please tell me yes. I think you need to find a new job working with actual humans.

spitting in cokes....wow.

hey guys, so when i went home for lunch (when i wrote the post) i felt really bad and regretted what i had done but after reading everyone's post i feel a lot better. So, i go back to work and ask Linda what happened. She said she told the coordinator of the building and then the coordinator told the director. After that, the coordinator confronted Cindy with Linda in the room. She said she had heard a rumor that she spit in Linda's drink. Linda said that Cinday was like "ME?? NO WAY, i would never do that!!" which is a bunch of bs because i was told immediately after it had just happened!!
Anyway, Cindy was being really quiet and rude all day to Linda. Then later on, Sarah goes "what did i do to piss off Linda?" so another co-worker who knows whats going on says "nothing, Linda thinks you guys are mad at her" Sarah then says "who are "we"?" (pretending she doesnt know anything!) so then the co-worker says you and Cindy "Cindy??? i dont even talk to her!" Which is also a bunch of bs because everyone knows them two plus Dawn are inseperable! On Thursdays i close the school, meaning i have to stay with the kids we still have after 630pm until their parents come. At 6:20 all the teachers have to bring their kids up to the front office, where i was at, and stay until 6:30 when its time for them to leave. While we were all up there Sarah must have told Dawn about 4 times "WE HAVE TO TALK, I HAVE TO TELL YOU SOMETHING" which im pretty sure it was to say that someone told on Cindy spitting in Linda's drink. That was just very uncomfortable and Sarah was being kind of rude/cold to me. I know i did the right thing, because if it was me, i would also want to know- BUT this is just getting bad. I am not sure if im the only one out of the "group" that knew that Cindy spitting in the drink, but if i am then they know i was the one that told. I really hope they dont confront me because there is nothing worse than working with people that are like your enemies, but if things get bad I will go to the director or coodinator and tell them whats up, and request not to work with them! :( Oh by the way, Dawn is like in her 30's, she has two kids in her teens, and is divorced. Cindy is probably like my age, 21, and has a 2 year old daughter and is engaged to some man who is not the child's father, and Sarah is my age and going to school. Just giving a little background info. See, when you work with only women, there is sooo much gossip going around. I hate to admit it, but where i work it is so true! |
Just keep being yourself and try not to let anyone drag you into anything. Its their problem. Let the supervisor and the other players sort it out. If you can, keep your distance from the others until the dust settles. As JAM said, I watch my can of coke, though.
ps: I've heard not to aggravate a waiter in a restaurant for the same reason. |
Are you at Southampton?

I had forgotten that you work at a school, bucutie. I sure hope neither of those women has access to the kids' snacks or drinks because I'd hate to think what they'd do if one of the little ones makes them angry! |
