Crossroads

Being the big dork that I am, I saw Britney's movie last weekend. And it wasn't that bad at all. It was a violence-free Thelma and Louise kinda movie, a very Lifetime-like flick. Overall, 2.5 stars/5

The only problem with the movie was the audience was filled with 14 year olds that were too immature to know how to be quiet for 90 minutes - the behavior was so uncontrolled (no ushers at all) that we got free passes when we complained.

Anyone else see it? Opinions?

You're not a big dork. I'm 25 and I want to go see it. I was supposed to go see it last weekend with one of my sorority sisters but we lost track of time. I'm going on vacation Friday so I'll probably check it out when I'm in Florida. I'll let you know what I think.

Yes, actually, I'm 22 and I saw it also. I had no intention of seeing it until it came out on video, but anyway...I thought it was okay. Britney Spears' character wasn't anything that needed a lot of true acting experience, but I thought she cried pretty well. The guy in the movie was very good looking, but too much older to be playing her love interest (...wasn't be supposed to be in college or just out of it?). Even though the movie was PG-13, Britney Spears' core audience is young girls who will want to see this movie and it just isn't appropriate for them. I mean, come on: running away from home, performing in a bar cuz you ran out of money, rape, miscarriage, drinking, an unfaithful fiancee...these just aren't topics for kids.

Also, and this is kinda silly but, it drives me crazy when they do movies with highway driving and the people in the movie are the only car on the road. Get Real!

A bunch of us ChiOs were supposed to see it this past friday & this past wednesday but we're so busy that we can't work out a time that's good for all of us. Luckily we're going this Friday :D
We tried every weeknight this week but we all have meetings etc and are never free at the same time.

A word of advice: Go to the latest show possible if you don't want to deal with throngs of pre-teen Britney fans. We saw it at 7:30 (big mistake)

I haven't seen the movie yet, but a friend of mine told me that Britney's character loses her virginity at the end of the movie. Considering that most people going to see this movie are preteen girls, is that really the best message for her to be sending? I'm all about Britney being a "grown-up" and doing her own thing, but she does need to consider her fanbase. BTW, does she still claim to be a virgin in real life? ha:p

HeidiHo 02-20-2002 04:26 PM

When I think about the shows I liked as a pre and early teen they were shows that centered around late teenagers. A good example I can think of is 90210. Brenda was doin the nasty, Dylan was a substance abuser, Kelly had an eating disorder among other things, a kid killed himself playing with a gun...
We tend to look up to older people. I think it's just the way the world works

I know entertainers should appeal to their audience, but I applaud Britney. Mind you, I'm not a fan...but she's doing everything to get the stigma of being associated with nothing more than 12-yr-old girls off of her name. I've not seen the film, but if it doesn't do her audience's eyes well to see, then so be it. As an entertainer she cannot live for the 12 yr-old girls that like her right now...she's got to perform in a way that will advance the interests of her career. It just annoys me that many think this girl has to act real goofy to appeal to the 12 yr-olds all of her career. Where will that get her in the industry?

While I agree with most of your opinion, I just feel that parents of these 12-year-olds should be warned that this isn't a cute-sy Britney movie and that the content is a little more mature.

My problem with her is she claims that she doesn't want to be a role model and then gushes about how girls look up to her. That is just a hypocrite to me. Everyone believes she's "not that innocent" but with the outfits she'll wear on award shows which are free to watch and easily accessible to kids, what kind of message is she sending?

(getting off soapbox)

To see her little sister imitate some of her moves makes me ill too.

I wanna see this movie not just because of it being Britney Spears however I do want to see if she can actually act! I just thought the idea of the movie was cute....you always see guys going on road trips now we have the girls too:D

Well i wanted to see this movie, NOT because of Britney Spears but just because i like those kind of movies. I guess i would say it was pretty good. When i went there weren't any teenagers there so i guess that helped everything! If you are into those types of movies then i recommend going to see it!

CrimsonTide4 04-21-2003 12:30 PM

Just watched this movie on SHOWTIME and it was really good. I liked it and I am not a Britteny Spears junkie.

I would even see it again.

BTW, what is the Black actress' name? Missed the credits. She played the role she was given very well. I was too through with her fiancee. JACKAZZZ raped her friend.

CrimsonTide,
Her name is Zoe Saldana. I think she's gorgeous. She's actually a dancer who can act too and she was also in "Drumline" and "Center Stage"

CrimsonTide4 04-21-2003 03:10 PM

Thanks Killarney,

After I asked I did a little search on the web. I KNEW she looked familiar to me. :)
