Rush Questions

I am going through informal rush right now, it started yesterday, and I was jsut wondering what kind of questions should I be asking?? I feel kind of overwhelmed and I can't come up with questions on the spot when the sisters ask me if there is anything else I want to know. Any suggestions on what I should be asking?

The one question I always asked was, "why did you choose XYZ?" I found it to be really helpful because you might be able to get a better idea of how the house is by what the active says.

another option

I also found asking about the philanthropy helpful. It gives them a chance to talk about the positive way they help the community, and it shows that you're interested in things other than just partying.

Something like, "I heard that your chapter supports ______. What kinds of events does the chapter sponsor for the philanthropy?"

I just went thru what you are going thru, so here is my advice :

1. Examine all of the local chapters websites as well as the national website. This will give you a feel for what the group is all about and give you an edge asking educated questions.

2. Sit down and think about what is important to YOU and evaluate what sorority stands for that on both a national and local level.

3. Be yourself, have a good time and trust your gut.

Have a great time and let us know how rush goes!

You could ask why they chose their sorority, or what they think sets it apart from the others on campus. They're not really allowed to say anything negative about other houses, but they can tell you why they felt their group really stood apart. It's not really important that you have a bunch of great questions lined up as long as you seem genuinely interested in their sorority.

It's important to find out about each of the chapters you are interested in, but it's more important to find about the members. It helps to ask what they are interested in and what kinds of things they participate in outside of their chapter. You might also want to ask what they enjoy most about the chapter or what their favorite event is.

Ok, I'm going to be nosey, but I can't help it-I love the Rush stories!! :D What school are you at, and what sororities are involved? How's it going so far? And last of all, good luck and have a great time!

I am at a college in Maryland. We have 7 sororities on campus. I went to 4 parties on Sunday, AOPi, Zeta, Alpha Phi and Phi Sig. I didn't really know what to expect when I walked into my first party, but as soon as I walked in I was greeted by a wonderful smiling face. And imediately started to feel a little more comfortable. I clicked with one girl right from the beginning and we talked and she introduced me to a bunch of the sisters. It was great. Going to those parties really made me want to go greek, I wanted to before, but this really made me excited. Seeing the bonds between the sisters just made me want it for myself. I am an only child in real life so the idea of having 70 or so sisters just makes me get all excited. I can't wait for the rest of the week. Of the 4 I went to, I felt very comfortable in 3. And have recieved 2 invites back so far, I still have all evening to get some more phone calls, but I got invited back to my top 2. :) I will keep yall informed!!

I know when I was going through the XYZ girl would say "do you have any questions" and my response was always "You already answered them :D ". You might ask how the girl you're talking to has changed/grown since becoming an XYZ or what other opportunities XYZ had opened up for her. Abstract questions can really give you insight to the overall experience.
Best of Luck
Heidi
