greek nationals in chat

hi everybody...i hope u r all fine!!

something happened these days(well,u involved in chatting in this network know what i mean)which was very unpleasant to greek nationals.i don't know why u guys did that and what u r trying to achieve with this kind of behaviour.plz, don;t think that i am telling u off but i would like to find out the reasons for this action if u r kind enough so as to share them with me.
i would also like to apologise for the rudness u may have encountered talking to some greek nationals(including me,i am very sorry,it was very stupid of me).
someone ( i don't remember the username right now) said that scaring greek nationals away from the chat is very funny.well,my friend u r scaring nobody....u r just spoiling some people's chance for some fun.
well, i know that some of u are going to spend some time so as to reply to me, so i would like to thank u in advance!!

Speaking for my Alpha Gamma Delta sisters and myself, I can verify that individuals who claim to be Greek nationals have made inappropriate comments and advances toward us.

The purpose of the Greekchat website is to provide an opportunity for members of Greek fraternity and sorority organizations, who were either pledged/initiated while in college or even as an alumni initiate or someone who will be attending college and would like to gain insight into how Greek organizations function.

So..it makes me wonder why Greek nationals would continue to come to this board when it should be very clear as to the purpose of this website.

I'm not saying that Greek nationals are not welcomed. I am saying that everyone, Greek fraternity/sorority/national should treat others with respect.

Greek Nationals who want to chat with other Greek Nationals

I know that I speak for myself and many other friends on GC when I say that I avoid the chat area because of the rude, beyond hostile comments of many Greek Nationals. I don't care who participates in this board/chatroom (though it makes sense that those participating would be fraternity/sorority/or those interested in joining), as long as they treat others with respect, and this has NOT been the case at ALL. So, Jimmy, if you are finding that people are not being very nice to you - well, you yourself admitted to being rude, and I know you're not the only one. Thanks AGDLynn for posting a board that the Greek Nationals can go to! That was really nice of you. Also, I think it might be wise for us to put a disclaimer on the homepage explicitly stating what the purpose of this board is, although I'm not trying to sound elitist and bitchy. :) I'm just really tired of dealing with the crap in the chatrooms! It's outta control!

Maybe John can put something when the chat room opens up that says "this chat room is for the purpose of discussing Greek-lettered sororities and fraternities"? (No offense Ceres, Farmhouse, Acacia & Triangle ;) )

Anne Marie,
By saying Greek Nationals, we mean people who are from the country of Greece. In our chatroom (Alpha Gamma Delta) there have been many Grecians interupting visits among sisters. These people are rude. They may be people are from Athens, Greece for example. By saying GLO ( Greek Letter Organization) (sorority/ fraternity) we mean a college or university student or alumni of that praticular oganization. For example: Women's Fraternities Delta Zeta, Alpha Gamma Delta, Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, Phi Mu etc..... Men's Fraternities: Sigma Chi, Kappa Sigma, FIJI etc......

DZTUBAGIRL 02-16-2002 07:53 PM

Thanks everybody for clearing that up.

My roommate and I have visited the room on a number of occasions, and we both found their comments rude and inappropriate. I admit I have told several of them off, but that's because many greek males who come in try to contact me in a private room and make explicit comments so I merely tell them off.

I assure you that every comment made to them was totally warranted (as least by us ladies!!).

Further, I don't understand why they come in in the first place. I have a high enough IQ to figure out what "fraternity and sorority chat"means, especially when people remind me on a continual basis!!

I was particularly offended by the Greek nationals when it was said (more than once) "Ossama did the right thing, America sucks"

Please tell me you are kidding....sounds like someone needs an old-fashioned American style ass-whoopin  grrrr

I don't really see what the problem is here. This is a chat room for sorority and fraternity chat. If you have nothing to do with it or don't want to talk about it why would you want to be in it. This seems like common sense to me. There has to be other chat rooms for greek nationals, why don't you go chat there, then there won't be anymore problems.

Anne Marie

Sorry if I have made anyone mad but this is just the way I feel.

since they obviously can't get the hint, my suggestion is to create a room in the chat section just for greek nationals. that way they can still chat, but will leave us alone. put the title in greek and let them have their fun.

AGDLynn 02-17-2002 01:26 PM

Okay, I may be totally wrong, but weren't Socrates, Aristole and that group of scholars, mathemeticians and philosophers were from Greece?? Something musta happened along the gene pool line in these "Greek Nationals" to totally NOT get that they are supposed to be civil to persons of other nationalities, especially in a website/chatroom designed for that purpose.

ZTAngel 02-17-2002 04:05 PM

America has also had many great thinkers who have proclaimed that all people of all nationalities should be treated equally. I guess many of the Greeks could say that something happened in our gene pool as well. I'm not at all condoning what some of the Greek nationals have done to us in the chatrooms....they have been extremely rude and insentive but I don't think it's fair to compare them to Socrates and Aristotle.
