Sorority Rush Tips

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering if you guys have any tips for me in terms of the actual rush process as well as filling out the application. Any feedback is appreciated

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. You just fill out the form. They are pretty straight forward - factual. No essays to give your reasons for wanting to sign up, etc.

Tips for the rush process is just way to generic. How about some specificity???

There are tons of rush tips in the recruitment forum.

Titchou, the OP has offered up a wealth of specifics in her other GC postings. In sum: CSU - Channel Islands, rushing one of two locals again after not receiving bid, extremely dedicated to her cause and sound advice tendered by Sciencewoman. : )

You know, I just don't have time nor the inclination to research every poster...best of luck to her...;)

How do I present myself without coming off as fake?

I want to rush because I am passionate about the philanthropy work that they do (they are a local sorority that emphasizes in working with women and children), and I see a ton of leadership opportunities for myself in philanthropy as well.

The problem with the last one is that I don't want to come off as fake or even offensive in some respects

Have absolutely no idea about any of that as I am not familiar with your campus nor the groups on it. I have no idea what the application consists of. I'm an NPC member and that's what I'm familiar with. Perhaps you should find an alumna of one of these two groups to help you?????

I think coming off as fake is the last thing you have to worry about.

I am just afraid that I will not be the only one who gives that response or something similar, and that the sisters will feel that I have been listening to other girls responses in order to get the answers to their questions

Everyone has a similar answer to this question. Members know that.

What went wrong during your previous rush experience(s)? How are you planning to improve upon that this time? What makes you a better candidate for membership than before? Why do you think this will turn out any different when they chose not to give you a bid before?

These are some questions you should consider.

^^^^YES.

I think what went wrong is that I wasn't well prepared and had no idea what to expect, and therefore presented myself as an introvert. I plan to improve that by having shorter conversations with more girls (as a way to get my name out there) and talking to different girls everyday of the rush process. What makes me a better candidate for membership than before is that this year, I chose to volunteer specifically with organizations that reflect the causes that this sorority focuses on, and I think it will turn out differently because I will be better prepared and have already started networking with those in the sorority and with some alumni for tips

Griffins&Quills 06-06-2015 09:18 PM

Volunteering for organizations/causes just because that's what the sorority does comes off as fake and disingenuous. It's a little like wearing ABC colors every day of recruitment because you want to be an ABC.

And while I speak from an NPC standpoint, recruitment is like a job interview. You need to not be introverted. You need to be present and engaged and enthusiastic to be there. Being the girl who stands in a corner and is too afraid to talk to anyone is not going to help you. It will hurt you.
