AGD UGa. Natl. & alums stand up for GLO rights
The Sunday (2-10-02) Atlanta newspaper had a HUGE article covering the AGD chapter at UGa and there problems with a member who sent letters to the Univ. saying the chapter was racist. The article reveals how the AGD alum advisors and the AGD natl. stood up for the rights of this private group.
This article is in the Atlanta newspaper free archives for a week (until Feb. 16, probably) and after that it will cost $1.95 to access this: http://stacks.ajc.com/cgi-bin/display.cgi?id=3c6a90f33637dMpqaweb1P11010&doc=res ults.html Ali Davis loved her life in Alpha Gamma Delta at the University of Georgia. Then a black student came through sorority rush and everything changed. THE SISTER WHO SPOKE UP Author: JIM AUCHMUTEY, STAFF Date: 02-10-2002 Publication: The Atlanta Journal and Constitution Page Number: A.1 Word Count: 4455 Size: 29K Relevancy: 87 It was the moment sororities live for. Behind the beveled glass doors of their Victorian chapter house, almost 100 sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta were crowded into the entry hall and onto the staircase to consider the sensitive matter of membership. |
Thanks for posting the article info! :)

oh yeah, wow, this is such new news!!!
NOT! is it just me or does our buddy hoosier love posting negative things about greeks? do a search. |
Actually, the article is a pretty good one, and shows both sides of the issue relatively evenly (unlike most Greek-related news articles).
Since I was assisting with Rush during the time that this situation occured, I'm aware of the Davis claim against AGD, and I'm glad that the sorority was finally able to get their side of the story published. I think they've come a long way in proving that their chapter is not the racist group of girls that Davis proclaimed it to be. |
I seriously doubt it was hoosier's intention to post about an "evenly sided" greek article.
Davis basicly wanted to get out of a housing contract. End of story. |
This is the same article that SoTrue1920 posted on the 3rd page of the desegregation thread, unless you found another one, dzrose? That link didn't work when I tried it but the only AGD article I found was the previously posted one.
hoosier, if you want to be a worthwhile member of this community, please contribute some of your own thoughts and opinions instead of just doing cut and paste. It's way lame. |
Oh and by the way DO A SEARCH!!!!!!
Thank you, drive through. |

It is still the right of the members of a chapter to decide who they want or do not want!
Any individual who thinks they have the right to join a private group is wrong! It is a privilege not a right! Getting a drivers license is a privledge not a right! I for one would vote on the individual not the color or religion! We have Afro-Americans, Middle Easterns, whites, etc. These are not open Societies for everyone! While this may sound harsh, it is not to be as I think you all know me! I am the most conservatative libral, or the most liberal conservative you have ever met! The do rightous people are more harm than the everyday person and try to prove how rightous they are! They SUCK! Get in the trenches and meet the people as they are inside!:D Well I just lost all of the hair off my chest on this one!:D |
who are you hoosier?
Hoosier?
are you possibly the African-American girl at Indiana University who went through rush but didnt get a bid? I heard a terrible story about how a black girl went through formal recruitment this winter and made it all the way to pref night with a house. I heard that she was smart, pretty and the girls loved her personality. However, the house did not want to give her a bid because she was black. I know this is true because one of my best friends is in the sorority (who I wont name, but it is NOT AGD) and when she heard the news, she deactived immediatly from disgust! Now the IU chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta has had African-American members in the past...I know because I took many a composite in the my younger years :) |
Real Hoosier?
Wanna make a bet that hoosier isn't in indiana? Since he/she likes to post newspapers from all over, he/she could be anywhere..North, East, West, or....South???
