"Behind the Letters", A documentary short

I just saw a tweet about this short film, featuring the GLOs at Grand Valley State University. The director, Mr. Nate Weber, is an alum of Sigma Pi.

No black, Asian, or Latino orgs? Interesting.

This is just a thought and could be right or wrong. The media likes to make negative portrayals of mostly white organizations. When many people think of these African American or multicultural Greek organizations, they think of philanthropy. Sadly, people don't always think of community service and philanthropy when they think of white orgs. I hope that changes someday though.

I considered that also. It is still problematic to have a video that represents the entire Greek system that leaves out two entire councils.

(Though I was happy to see at least some diversity in the orgs that were shown.)

No, you raise a good point. I definitely don't doubt it. It was nice to see diversity in the video too, like you mentioned.

Hey, I'm in this video!

Santiago Gayton, who is the Fraternity and Sorority Life director interviewed in the video, is a member of a Latino org.

You prepping your Oscar speech yet? LOL.

Congratulations for being in the video.

^^^ No speaking part, sadly. ;)

I heard about the video at a house corp. board meeting this past weekend. If I find out more, I'll post, but my understanding was that this was a private project by the creator -- not a university project.

Which one are you?

Sciencewoman 05-13-2015 07:13 PM

Not one of the collegians....

sigmadiva 05-14-2015 09:54 AM

Joanne Litton, who is interviewed, is a Tri Sigma.
