UCF Recruitment

So I'm currently a freshman at UCF about to be a sophomore and i plan on rushing as a sophomore.

I rushed last fall, and after researching recruitment a lot recently i see why it didn't turn out how i wanted it to due to my conversational skills and the fact that i suicided without realizing that it's a bad thing.

So i was wondering that if i fix those things this time around, would i have better luck going through even though i am a sophomore vs a freshman?

Also should i go find recommendation letters? I wasn't really able to make friends with other girls in sororities due to a different activity that i was partaking in all year.

Thank you!

Where I went to school didn't require rec letters, but have you tried your former high school teachers, women at church, the gym, or friends of the family? Surely there are some Greeks in there somewhere. Friends of friends? :) Is UCF a very competitive rush?

You didn't make friends with any sorority members? In all your classes and wherever you lived there is not one sorority member who's name you know, or are you talking about not knowing them well enough to meet for lunch or a cup of coffee? Regardless, since you feel that you don't have friends in any of the chapters at UCF you will need to find recommendations. There is fabulous recruitment information in the very forum( including answers to where to find recs.), much of it stickied so it stays cat the top. Look thru it, read what pertains to you, and if you still have questions ask us then.

Wait... you are a sophomore and you don't know a single girl in any sorority because you have been so busy all year? I am afraid that you have a lot more to be concerned about than finding recommendations. As a sophomore, you should have made many friends in all of the chapters in order to have a successful recruitment the 2nd time around.

Is this activity that kept you so busy your freshman year going to allow you the tremendous time commitment needed to join and participate in a sorority next year? That will be a huge concern.

To both of you: no i wasn't able to make friends in my classes because lectures are so big and no one talks to anyone for some reason, and it was hard to find the greeks in them. I also have no idea how i was supposed to meet girls in sororities other than through classes. I'm not doing that activity again next year so i'm going to have all the time in the world to join and participate in a sorority providing i get into one. Both my friend and i are rushing this year as sophomores and she knows people and has people writing recommendations for her, but she assumes that since they're taking the time for her they won't want to write recommendations for someone else, especially someone they don't know.

also question: since im going to be at school all summer, do you have any suggestions on how i could meet the girls in sororities throughout the summer? Im sure plenty will be there i just, once again, don't really know how to meet them except for recruitment and by then its too late.

1. You need recs.

2. Your best sources are folks who know you personally, but there are local Alumnae Panhellenics who assist PNMs in locating recs (provided that you locate them and get them all the info that they need before the deadline.) Exhaust your personal connections first.

3. Knowing people is important. However, you can't just meet someone like, over the summer in class and expect that they'll want you as part of their sorority. When we talk about beneficial connects, we're speaking more about those you develop as part of being actively involved on campus.

UCF, I have a hard time believing that your classes were "greek-free" , that sorority members at UCF don't have dress to pin day or letter day every week, or that you could not have chosen to sit next to a girl wearing letters, but that ship has sailed. Sophomores can get bids at UCF, but they have recommendations, friends in the chapters, AND they keep an open mind. Get to work.

oh they definitely weren't i found them, i just was unsure how to approach them in class because i didn't want them to think i was only approaching them solely because of their letters. But you're right it has and im working on recommendations currently and ive sent out emails to every chapter, and ive already got some responses and ill work on meeting people this summer, and make sure im as charming as can be for the upcoming recruitment process.
