Tragedy - Georgia Southern Students
|
Message From the President
April 22, 2015 A message from Georgia Southern University President Brooks Keel: It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of a tragedy that took place this morning. Five Georgia Southern students died and two were injured in an early morning crash on I-16 eastbound near Savannah. We are unable to release the names of these students at this time because we are awaiting notification to families. Every one of our students contributes in no small measure, to the Eagle Nation. The loss of any student, especially in a tragic way, is particularly painful. Losing five students is almost incomprehensible. Our hearts go out to the families, friends and classmates of these students. The University flag will fly at half-staff Thursday in their memory. Memorial arrangements are pending. Let me urge those particularly touched by this tragedy to avail themselves of counseling services, and I urge all members of the University community to support each other during this time. Members of the University community may obtain support services from the Counseling Center at 912-478-5541. |
An update - apparently the girls were Kappa Deltas per a young friend of mine who is a member of the chapter at Georgia Southern...

I believe one victim was an ADPi.
I've heard they were traveling to Savannah for clinicals. |
One girl was from Savannah and went to my high school. Her parents still live down the street from mine. So sad.

One each from KD, AOPi, and ADPi

Based on Facebook creeping on the girls (morbid, I know, but I wanted to know which girl was my sister), it looks like one girl was a KD, two were AOIIs, one was an ADPi and one I couldn't find any obvious affiliation for. One of the injured girls is also an ADPi and I couldn't find the other one on Facebook. My heart goes out to all their chapters.

One of those killed was an Alpha Delta Chi. I'm not familiar with that.
My sincere sympathies to each of their families, their friends, and their sororities. |
Alpha delta chi is a national christian sorority. The chapter president passed away in the accident. This whole thing is so awful.

My nephew goes to Southern. So sad. :'( My heart hurts for Panhellenic there. Takes me back to this.

This hits too close to home in more ways than one. Here is a news story out of Savannah with an interview with the Kappa president.
