We do a can drive every year for the Genesee County Food Bank. We only have five organizations total at our school but we usually bring in quite a bit of cans!

You could have a sports event, like a softball, basketball, or volleyball tournament that groups together sororities and fraternities. Each pays a certain amount to get into the tournament, and the money is pooled and donated to a cause.

Well, Greek Week is going on right now at my school and we have each organization designate a god/goddess who walks around all week collecting change from students/falculty ect. this also counts as a point system, whoever gets to most money wins this event. It usually brings in a lot of money!!!!

My school did "can castle." You had to have a certain number of cans per member (the more the better, but it was proportional to chapter size), and build a scuplture out of them.

One of the things my school does every year is contact the elementry schools, and other "children's" organizations, and ask them if they need/want any help with taking care of kids afterschool one day. You go and play with the children, sometimes, with the manpower and materials, can do things such as donate toys and outdoor play areas(play structures, swingsets) The donatino is above the budget of our greek system here. One thing we've done in the past(as a house, for a company picnic) is build a cardboard maze out of boxes for the children.

You can also go to the oppsite end of the spectrum, and spend time with the elderly. Go to an assited living home, retirement comunity, and play bingo, spend time with individual residents, etc. Depending on the size of the greek system you can find multiple places to go, and let people pick which one's they would like to do best. you can also do things such as park cleanups, and whatnot, for the environemntly consious.

Greek Week

This past Greek Week, our school sponsored a bowl-a-thon to raise money for a boyfriend of one of my sisters. He had been in a bad car accident over fall break and remained in the hospital until March or April. So to help out with the costs of his hospital bills, IFC and NPC decided to do the Greek Week philanthropy for him.

Greek Week Philanthropy

Something my school does for Greek Week is have a blood drive.

Each house is required to get so many for each house to donate to get the points for that event.

the event changes every year but the money we raise goes to our children's center on campus.
the whole week is a big competition between sororities alone and fraternities alone. Lots of sporting events and fierce competition and a "greek sing" at the end.
But the events have been coin drives. This last year it was a teeter-totter thon. Basically they set up a wooden teeter totter in the quad and all greek orgs had assigned times and they would collectively teeter totter for 24 hours straight. And then you would either get people to sponser you ($ amount per hour) or just a flat donation. what ever org got the most money would be placed and got points towards the rest of the competition. we raised over 10 grand.

philanthropy ideas

hi, for some of our philanthropies we make " trick=o treat bags "for the children in the local hospital. we cut and paste them and design them ourselves. Some children cannot have candy so, we fill them up with a fun pen and some paper.

for a recruitment philanthropy we made banadans. grabbed some fabric paint, some nice plain material, brushes, sponges, glue and jewels. we made cute purple and green bandanas and gave them to the cancer ward for the children.

If you have any other questions:)
contact me whenever..
